msi k7t turbo2 won't boot

got an msi k7t turbo2 a couple of weeks ago, and things were great at first. then, after changing the ram, the power wouldn't turn on. changed the ram back, wouldn't turn on, unplugged the usb riser and it worked. i thought maybe the riser had been backwards or something, so i carefully put it back, and things worked again.
now it gets weird. without touching ANYTHING ELSE i went to work, and when i came back home, i tried to turn on the pc. it turned on for about 2 seconds, then turned off. i played with things a bit, eventually stripping it down to just the board, cpu, fan, ram, and video card, but the same thing kept happening (2seconds, then spontaneously turns off.) changed the ram, no change, changed power supply, no change, changed video card, no change, changed cpu, no change. tried ram in different slots. tried turning the thing on while OUTSIDE the case (holding it very, very carefully) in case the case was shorting it, no change. was finally convinced that if i took this thing back to the store, it wouldn't work for them, and i'd get a new, working board.

but then it booted for them. i brought it back home, it booted for me, too. i plugged everything in, it worked, i turned it off, and came back an hour later, ready to reformat my hard drive. and it didn't work again -- same thing, turns on for 2 seconds, then off. i again stripped it down, progressively, this time all the way down to board, cpu, and fan, but to no avail.

2 questions:

1) can anyone help me fix this?

2) if not, what on earth can i tell the service guy at the store to convince him my board is really defective?

Please, please help.

 :(

jezabel,

geez,...I'm getting this board tomorrow or the next day (fedex express). I hope mine doesn't do this...

I would just take it back to the store and have them leave it powered up for a whole day, and request they reboot it a few times during the day. The problem is sure to show up then...

good luck!

thanks for the advice. keep me posted on how your board works (don't worry, i haven't heard of anyone else having this problem).

good luck:)

good question. yes, it's plugged into the board. it's a pretty low-power fan (the one that came with a cooler master heatsink) though. do you think that would explain why the board works, then doesn't work for a couple of weeks then all of a sudden works for the technician, then works for me, then spontaneously stops working?

also, after clearing the cmos, the board won't turn on at all -- not even 2 seconds.

so, clearing the cmos actually DID work -- i just need to use the case power button to turn the power on (the switch on the psu alone worked before)

thanks for your help,
