Hi all,

I am using the above mobo, flashed the bios to version 2.7 and I tried to put my boot HDD (master) with another slave HDD onto the IDE 3.

I also set the BIOS to boot in this order: Promise / SCSI, Floppy, HDD0 and CDROM.
The boot from other device option is also enabled.

But I have been unsuccessful in getting the HDD to boot.

If I place the cable onto IDE1, the HDD will boot.

I am using WinMe.

could anyone advise me on how to use IDE 3 without destroying my installed OS?

thanks in advance.

First off, can I assume you loaded the Promise drivers, as my W2K install would not find the drive without the drivers installed first.

I am not sure if this is correct, but I thought you could only use the raid controllers for a raid array but then again I may be wrong.

Gene, I feel your pain, m'man...I'm in the same position, where it seems I can only use the two channels for RAID array setup... :(

Good luck!

Have you updated to the latest VIA 4in1 drivers? A friend of mine did this, and now all is well!

What error messages did you get when you were booting from the raid? From what i know, you can boot into windows 98 and ME without loading the drivers for the raid. Also did the Promise BIOS detected your HD?

Try making your boot sequence Promise/SCSI SCSI, Floppy, CDROM. I beleive that you have to indicate SCSI if your boot drive is on IDE 3or 4. Also in your Raid manual that came with your MB it tells you how to set up the HD's in IDE 3&4 to do whatever you want. It should also tell you if what you want to do is possible. I have this motherboard and I love it. Also I you might need to change the Jumpers on the HD's themselves to Cable select! I had to do that on A SOYO motherboard with a highpoint controller.

okie thanks guys for your input and help... i will try out your suggestions abt the jumper settings and also the bios settings.

i did find out on another forum that another solution was to use the RAID controller itself, and set the master hdd as a single strip0 array. however i think if i did this, it will wipe all the present data on my hdd. :(

i think what you guys are suggesting is to use the bios itself to detect the hdd and not the raid controller. i will look at the manual again. i did read it once, but was under the impression that you can only use it as a ide controller for hard disks that were NOT primary-master.

okie keep the information flowing in and i will try to feedback to you guys... and a big thanks for all the constructive inputs!
