MSI goes for stability over anything, picking Highpoint wouldnt have been a great decision.... going with Promise is smart.

I got a problem with this board...it says 200 and 266FSB but then it also says 168pin dimms. DDR is 184pin. What gives, is this board going to support 266 or not? I'm looking for a board that will and everyone seems to like MSI on this forum.

You got it totally confused, running 266MHz has nothing to do with DDR, you DONT have to use 184 pin DDR to get 266MHz front side bus. The K7T Turbo is equipped with KT133A chipset, it was NEVER advertised to have DDR, for more information, read Anandtech's article on the DDR killer.

More info on it...

Sweet, Fuzzy Logic 3- you can manipulate the FSB in windows with it- I wonder if you can fool around with the multiplier in it too?

Good call with the Promise RAID instead of the Highpoint. The HPT370 has been giving some KT7-RAID users problems.

One thing I don't like about newer motherboard is no ISA slot! What about those lovely ISA Modems that are hardware and not winmodems?! It doesn't affect me because I have broadband and a PCI NIC, but I'm just saying... :p

You guys with ISA really need to get with the program. That is ANCHIENT tech. Were not running Win95 or 3.1 anymore. Step up and come to the world of PCI!

Lets take a 1 gig Tbird, couple it with fast ram, hard drive and all the bells and whistles.. Then you want to cripple it with a Legacy device. makes no sense. Theres always Epox for you guys.

Some of us still have ISA based modems because we can't get broadband in our areas. We don't have cable modems in my city, and my house can't get DSL, so I am stuck with a 56K modem, and my controller based ISA modem is better than any PCI Winmodem. I don't want a PCI modem because most (all?? not sure) are winmodems. I had a PCI winmodem for about two days and my connections were horrible.

There are PCI hardware controlled modems, that will totally eliminate the need for ISA.

I know, there are also external modems, but I don't feel like (and can't afford to) spending another $75 to get a good brand new modem, when the ISA one I have now works perfectly.

Venomous, wow, that's an intelligent thing to say. So by your reasoning everything that is "old" sucks? ;) ISA modems are always hardware and almost always have better connections than PCI modems (both hardware and winmodems) and external modems are rather crappy because they have to go through more buses.

I dunno, I may be biased because all of the PCI modems I've used have sucked worse than my ol' Diamond SupraMax 33.6- even 56k PCI modems were worse! It's not my house's phone lines either because my sister's boyfriend's laptop connected at 48,800. Heh, my PCI modems would go at 38,400 and they actually didn't go that fast.

Oh well, each to his own. ;)

I said the same thing about my Robotics 56 modem.
I then bought a cheapo 56 x2 compatible modem from aberdeen for $20.00, it's pci and I said goodbye to my old ISA.
The 56x PCI is just as fast if not faster than my ISA robotics modem.
I have cable now but the pci modem is in there incase my cable goes out.
There is not much difference in my opinion, when in fact the PCI modem usually connects at a higher rate almost all of the time.
No more ISA for me either, it's time to do away with old technology and make room for the new.
There has been plenty of time to make the changeover and I'm glad it's happening now.

LXi, I'm sure it is listed a long time ago, but I just saw it yesterday. :)

The good news for is: the chipset uses passive cooling.

Yea, im saying OLD technology sucks! Tell me, what is OLD that is better then whats available today? MB? no, CPU's? NO, RAM? No, Modems? No, NOTHING other then a Ethernet card..

This is the problem with today's MB manufacturers. ISA was to be ditched a long time ago, but people keep crying about ISA!! Let it go, its screwing up the flow for us who want NEW technology.

Also Zippy...a winmodem is not better then an ISA based modem. But, with a 56K, i dont think it really matters.. 5.2k/sec isnt much to brag about and losing .2/k is not that big of deal. USR makes a kickass hardware PCI modem. External modems are better anyhow. USR makes a better PCI hardware modem then their old ISA based modems. If ISA was so much better, then why arent they being produced? For the argument of this, why keep crying for ISA. If you want ISA, then obviously your not ready for the new hardware that comes out.

Its nice to see more and more MB's manf's leaving out ISA. Its time to let go.
