Hi all,
I am currently on my laptop because my PC refuses to run!
I hope someone can help me out because I am totally stumped.
Here are the specs:
MSI K7T Turbo MS-6330
AMD Athlon 1600+ XP
FOP-32 HSF w/ Sunon 60mm fan
45Gig Maxtor 7200
60Gig Western Digital 5400
256 pc133 generic ram
Philips Acoustic Edge
Visiontek Geforce 2 GTS 32MB
Plextor 12/10/32
Liteon 16x DVD
Linksys Etherfast 10/100 NIC
2 80mm panaflo fans
Powered by a brand new Sparkle 350W PSU
Rails are all above spec
3.3->3.41
5->5.02
12->12.40
Running Windows XP
I honestly am stumped now. It all started about a month ago when my system would restart in windows seldomly (originally a Duron 850), eventually becoming more often to once every 2-3 hours. I then replaced the original Award 300W PSU with the Sparkle. It was okay for two days then it went back to restarting.
I then switched out RAM (still with a 850 Duron): I originally had the generic and a 256 stick of Kingston RAM...I tried many variations... generic by itself, kingston by itself....my roomates spare PNY...still kept on restarting.
I then assumed all it could be was the CPU because back when I was in High school I penciled in the jumpers on the chip so I could unlock it...and my friend told me the penciling could be flaking causing the computer to restart. So I bought an Athlon XP 1600+. Threw that baby in last night. And bumped up the FSB to 133...it booted up to Windows once then next restart....beep beep beep beep beep I checked the LEDs and it stated it had bad RAM...okay...So i tried swapping them out again...each and everytime I still get the beeps and no post.
Somehow it boots with the generic ram only (so I assume it was the Kingston that went bad)...I tweak the BIOS per Stevios (sorry if I butchered your name
) post in a previous thread. It booted up once more and stayed on for most of last night. When I booted up this morning...it would get to the screen with the system info (clock speed, amount of ram, etc etc) and restart....do it again and again. I turned off the system and turned it back on and bam! beep beep beep beep bad ram again!
Alright thats my problem and I'm sticking to it!
Any ideas people? Thanks to all that have read this far and thanks to all that reply!
Anthony
