Hi Pipe: Missed chatting with you. I've been away from computing due to other duties, so haven't got this rig fully up. Don't think its fair to judge the speed yet, but so far, for my uses, not much boost. Windows blink a shade faster and it shuts down like a flash. As I said earlier, really wanted the experience of building mostly, along with some new toys and a smaller tower. After I get the floppy going, reinstall 98SE, and proper drivers, expect things will spark up a bit.
One delay, I decided to get the questionable PS out of the way, and put in an inexpensive Sparkle 300 BTV. It's quiet and responsive. A reviewer at Newegg is running XP chip, 5 drives and extra fans on one vs my 2 drives (floppies excluded).
This MB has a lot of bios options/adjustments for clocking. The heat probe is right againist the core, and gives good readings. In bios I set the rig to shutdown if CPU temp reaches 70C (min setting)/nice feature. Confirmed this bios is current for XP, so that'll be an easy step when the price is cheap. Has easy bios updating and auto overclocking program features.
This floppy turns out to be a Teac unit, and just visited that site confirming I had pin 1 of cable correctly in unit. Hate to order new unit when this always worked so well, but will probably do so this AM.
No rush to perfect the rig, just enjoy tinkering. Regards!
