MSI K7t Turbo 1200 oC temps and stuffs

Just bought a second hand 1200 Athlon and noticed that its L1 bridges weren't severed. I have it running in a MSI k7t Turbo and it runs 48C at idle. At full load it runs about 52C. I have the case side off. I have not increased the voltage(1.75).

Should I try to go higher? Are these temps too high? It was at 48-50 full load at 1200.

What kinda heatsink/fan are you using ?

Retail heatsink/fan. With case sides on I'm at 59/60 full load, 54 idle.

I would upgrade the HS/F to a SK-6 or Alpha 8045 with a high RPM fan myself but if you like it to be cool and quite try posting in the case and cooling forum that your looking for a good, quite fan that performs well and they'll give you some winners.

Screw that.. I'll just leave the case side off under my desk and live with 52 c full load

Those temps are normal for a k7t-turbo setup. Remember that each mb reads temps differentely, and you can't compare numbers across different mb's (and you always have to adjust numbers for ambient case temp).

The temperature probe on this motherboard is a little "pigtail" diode that almost (if not it does) comes into contact with the processor itself inside the socket. So, I would assume that it reads higher temps than boards with a diods down on the PCB. Just my amateur opinion though.

Yeah, that's why k7t-turbo readings are higher than most.... And more accurate than most, though socket-thermsitors still aren't accurate...


I still remember when, 6months ago, a group of k7t-turbo users bent down the thermistor to "lower" tehir temp readings... It worked, but for what reason

Im using the same motherboard in one of my computers. My temps with my old heatsink/fan (Fop32) my temps were
45-52c (1.2 Tbird @ 1500) now with the same setup and Pal8045 temps are 35-41c and I got another 55mhz outta the
Cpu and lowered the voltage .25v. My computer actually stays cooler with the case closed up.

I remember that to. I could always tell who was doing it when they claimed to be getting 42c load temps with a volcano2 while overclocked to 1500 Mhz. I f you can get load temps in the low 50's with idle temps in the mid 40s at 1400 mhz with stock voltage then you have it about as good as it can get with that board the way it reads temps. I had to use 5 extra case fans and an sk6 with a delta 38 fan to do it though.

P.S. A friend of mine has been runnin that exact processor and board and heatsink for 9 months now with similar temps with no problems whatsoever. If you have intentions of over clocking though i would definately upgrade that heatsink to an sk6 or something like that.

Speedtester, Methinks you have that thermistor pushed down so that it isn't touching the cpu just like the guys Mike mentioned were doing several months ago. what you are telling me is that your fop 32 was performing exactly like my sk6 with 38 cfm fan with a cpu clocked higher than mine. That isn't to likely but hey if doing it that way puffs you up a bit then then have at it although I can't fathom why.

I thought the same thing when I first put the 8045 on. The thermistor is laying nice and flat against the back of the CPU. Its still got plenty of spring left.
I actually had the HSF a couple nights ago when righting down the steppings from my cpu. I wouldnt do anything to jeopardize burning up
my CPU nor would I come here to fake out my temps. I swear to god the Pal8045 is the best heatsink I've ever had.
I also lapped it to a nice mirror finish before putting it on.


I did make a mistake in my first post, My HSF was a GlobalWin FOP38, not the 32.
