MSI K7T PRO2A - copying to zip drive crashes win2k - help appreciated

Mr. Burns

I'm trying to set up a domain server running win2k server on a new system with a k7tpro2a MB. Everything works fine, except when I try and copy files to (and sometimes from) the ide internal zip drive, the system hangs for a long period of time and won't copy the files. I've tried multiple good zip disks, so that's not the problem. The system recognizes the zip drive though and I can read files on a zip OK. Problem seems worst with bigger file transfers.

I've tried with and without the via ide busmaster drivers and all combinations of the zip drive on primary/secondary IDE and as master/slave. Also tried with and without iomega drivers on the system. I've also tried enabling sharing on the zip drive. None of these things have made a difference.

I've heard rumblings on the net that others have experienced this problem, but I can't find any more info. Surely if others have had these problems, there is a fix for it. Can anybody give me more information about this, or better yet suggest a fix/workaround?

Yup -- sorry, should have mentiond that problem occurs with or without SP1 or any other relevant updates available through windows update.

If you haven't found it already, Microstar has an updated driver when using an internal ZIP drive with the 686B chipset. It says it is for windows98, but not sure if there are other drivers in the .exe file they provide.

MSI ZIP Drive Update

Good luck

CinderElmo--thanks for the link. These are the latest beta IDE busmaster drivers from via which were mentioned above. For those interested in this issue, check out this thread for an update on our solution to the problem.

I just wanted to thank all you guys for figuring this out with the miniport driver update, that just fixed the problem for me - I've only been dealing with it for a day but it was frustrating nonetheless, especially since this is a system I just built for my brother-in-law and the zip drive is crucial for him.

Thanks again guys 😀
