msi k7t pro2a bios troubles

i flashed to an older bios version to mess around with it's overclocking features, then tried to flash back to a new version. the second flash crashed as soon as it started flashing so it obviously failed. the odd thing is i can still boot up and post!!

the live update is great, but you can not use it to flash to an older version so i was stuck with command line. i did find a utility that lets me flash in windows (winflash) so thought i was in luck. of course, it's not that easy! winflash wants a .bin file as input, and award's bios are named .260/.290/1.05 etc. and don't load properly. i think i need someone with this motherboard to save their bios to a file so i can use it to get my bios back in order. PLEASE, would someone who knows how to do this (hell, even if you don't, i'll explain it!) with this board and ANY working bios version make me a copy and email it to me? my address is listed in my info page.

thanks in advance! if you need more info let me know.

use windows explorer and go to c:\program files\msi\live update series

if you don't have this directory, go to www.msi.com.tw/support/liveupdate/livedriver.htm to update to the newest version of live update. once you have it installed, run winflash.exe. go to "file", "save old bios." it will ask for a name and include the .bin

thanks a LOT!!! i hope you don't have to go through any trouble for this!

sh1t!!! it got 1% done then gave me a validate error. i'm sure your file isn't the problem, it's my system...

i guess i'll email msi and ask for help, or buy a new nios chip if it comes to that. i read something years ago that i might try if all else fails - if you look at your board one chip has a shiny sticker on it, that's your bios chip. the chip has a little "window" in it which you can expose to ultraviolet light and the chip will be erased. then you cover it back up and the chip is clear. the only thing is, i have NO idea how it could post after that so i may not be able to flash it again.......

well, if anyone knows the answer to that let me know, and thanks a lot for the help dartblazer!!! i appreciate it.
