What items are supposed to be listed under system devices/ hard-disk controllers after install the VIA drivers???

I have Primary and Secondary Controller {Dual fifo}

and VIA Bus master IDE. However when I reboot the machine, I get a windows protection error message. If I go into safe mode and remove the VIA bus master entry, I'm able to get back into windows. But now i'm running in protected mode under the performance tab.

Any ideas?

i bet you are running either winme or win98se and if you are the UDMA driver for via is built into windows for both of them. uninstall just the DMA part of the via driver pack and go into device manager and enable dma for your hard drive and cd-rom and reboot. that should fix it for you. post back here if it don't for further help

Well headaches galore!

Apparently my primary channel is dead. dunno why. bios says primary ide failed. tried doing an autodetect and get nada.

Move drive cable to the secondary, was able to boot.
Bios shows my udma 100 drive, but when I do a auto-detect, it can't find the drive again.

I ran the western digital udma 66,100 selector pgm and it says my ata100 drive is a udma 33 drive.

anyays. primary is dead. need to RMA the board.

I made the mistake of installing the VIA ide drivers on my pro2a, tried both the vxd and miniport... uninstalled them since they did not help and then my hard drive dissappeard... the master file structure somehow was corrupted and I spent the next few days recovering most of the data with EasyRecovery Pro... not fun.
