Anyone know how good the on board sound is on the MSI k7t pro2-a MOBO? I'm building a computer for a friend and I want to cut some little corners. All he needs sound for is to listen to his cds. Is this a wise idea, at least for the time being?

I'm going to have to say it depends on your friend.

IT sucks for games, because it uses the CPU to perform the functions of a sound card, rather than relying on dedicated sound hardware.

Sound is pretty crappy, like every other AC solution (audio codec, a software "soundcard")

onboard sound is the winmodem of motherboard sound.

no true dedicated hardware, all done using CPU.

a PCI128 Soundblaster will run you $20. Do your friend a favor and pick up a soundcard for him.

I used both the on board sound, and a sb live! card on that mobo. There is a huge difference when playing games. If he's really into games, I'd pluck down the $45 bucks or so and get one.

some users (myself included) have experienced a random continuous high pitched sound that cannot be turned off unless you turn off your speakers or reboot.

Alright. Thanks guys! The computer has been built and the on-board sound isn't too terribly bad! Everything works great! Thanks for the help!

I just got my new computer and it has a KT7 pro 2-a, and I just have onboard sound, and it does the same high pitched sound yours does.... Have you figured out what is wrong with the sound? I guess I'll have to buy a sound card one day,

thanks, luke

I hope that it is better than my Pro 2 sound ...(should be the same).
It is OK ...just can't get a lot of volume ...and it locks from time to time ..(just quits).
I am going to get me a REAL sound card soon.

I find the on board sound to be alright on the K7T Pro2-A. There is, however, a "pulse" when powering on the system with the speakers already on. This did not happen on another system using a dedicated sound card. Turning the speakers on and off would be a nuisance. Any ideas? Thanks.

I am one who has experienced the high pitched sound, and on my computer, it only occurs when I'm listening to music and using the internet (NIC conflicts). I can listen to music, and play games all day long as long as I'm not using my network card
