I have just POSTED on this mobo after assembling the CPU (Duron 700), HS/fan (FOP32-1, w/default thermal pad), Mushkin PC100 ECC RAM, & Voodoo 3 2000 PCI video card.

The mobo is currently caseless and the ambient room temp. is approx. 22C (I have the patio door open & it's 42F outside).

I had purchased a CompuNurse temperature probe from the cooler guys and attached it to the CPU, with the thermistor tip as close to the core as I could get it without it interfering with the HS before I mounted the FOP.

Now the example of what Mike has been saying...

The Pro2-A BIOS temp monitoring reports the CPU temp as being "31C". The probe reports "38.4C" (and that's with it barely touching, if it really even is, the core).

Big difference and more reason to doubt those onboard sensors.

It really doesn't make sense to be able to get any kind of accurate reading with a thermistor that is not even close to the core. In fact, I guess I should have looked before I locked the CPU in but I really didn't even see one at all (ie., a little thermistor that might have been bent slightly to contact the back of the CPU when you locked it in).

Anyway... just an FYI.

Time to get the rear-window defogger stuff out along with the arctic silver... ;)
