Just got a new board to replace the one that the floppy controller was bad on. Installed in same case, same video, sound, etc. Problem is that the fans come on, hdd spins up, but no boot. No beep, NO NOTHING. I am beginning to lose confidence in this board. I have swapped out ram, reset bios, and re-seated video card. Anything else I should look for? Also, what other board would you recommend for a Duron 750?

The only thing I would try: Pull it out and start over from scratch. Check, recheck and check again all your work. Try booting with only video + floppy, etc.

Good luck.

bulldawg: check those FOUR LED near the video card. I believe from the LED you can sortta figure out what's wrong. Just hope that it's not RED on four of them! :D

FIRST, I would disconnect all the IDE cables from the motherboard first.

Then double check to make sure the PC speaker is hooked up, and that monitor is securely connected for the video out on the video card(hey it happens, can't hurt to check).

Power up.

If that results in nothing.

Next, remove the video card. power up WITHOUT a video card. See if you get the proper 4 beeps.

Then reseat the video card and power WITHOUT RAM. See if you get the proper 3 beeps.

Then try powering up WITHOUT a video and WITHOUT RAM. See if you get 7 beeps.

After that, I would wonder if the CPU is bad.

No LED`s on either of these boards. Took it out of the case and started over. With no video in, there is no beep at all. Ditto for the ram.

I wondered about that. But the boards have K7T Pro2 VER 1 between the 2nd and 3rd pci slots. Both of the boards came from Multiwave.com.

Well, I put the one with the floppy problem back in, and it works fine, except for the floppy. I can`t believe that I got 2 boards with problems. :disgust::frown:

Do a search and you will find at least two other threads detailing this problem and potential solutions...

i have bought about 20 msi's pro 2a based on anandtechs article - and i am disapointed - i think that the leds are really garbage, they generate the wrong errors when i know what the problems are. believe me contrary to what anand thinks about the boards they are not up to asus or abit in terms of quality. when you have a good one they are great. about one in 5 boards have problems. Overclockers and Tom thought that this board performed really poorly.

If you are sure that you dont have a problem with the basics (video memory cpu), have you any other pci cards at the time of setting up windows? try it with only a video card. There are a fair amount of memory types out there (including meman and mushkin) that i have found works on some pro2as and others same exact types that dont work. I have found sometimes the retnetion AGP clip could be a problem - have an ATI card that dont have the notch and this extra force by the clip unseats the video enough not too boot. I have one now on my bench that wont boot when a PCI card is in slots 3 and 5, and others that will.

I'm not happy with mine. It sometimes doesn't boot my Tbird 700 at 700. I have to hold down the insert key to get it to boot. I also have an EPOX that ran this same CPU at 850 with no problems. The Epox runs my duron 700 at 1000. The MSI would only do 900, but I'm not sure how stable it was becasue it didn't say in my main system very long.
