I just put together my rig. I attached CPU, RAM, and Video card to the mobo. It starts up for two seconds, then turns off and wont turn back on. I tried switching the RAM to another socket, and tried another stick of WORKING RAM. No luck. When it starts up, it goes through th DLED squence: 0000 -> 1000 -> 0100 -> turns off. Other people at Deja have had the same problem, should I return it too? I really dont want to go through all that trouble, but if I have to, I have too....

Had a somewhat similar experience a few weeks ago.

I know this sounds a bit elementary, but bear with me. Are you, by any chance, using the retail processor + HS/F? If so, take the heatsink off and look very closely at the thermal pad. I discovered (the hard way ) that just pulling the tape tab off sometimes leaves a small bit of cellophane behind. Very bad. My machine's major symptom was that it would shut off immediately after I tried to save settings in my cmos. And I got the same LED lights. Drove me nuts, but it's the mainboard trying to save you....by shutting down at high temps.

If not, never mind :D (OK, who remembers Emily Litella).

I think other folks have had a similar problem when they went "wild" with the thermal paste.

Good luck!

Frazz,

What you experienced happens alot. It appears like there are two layers of protective film, maybe its really just one layer that somehow, delaminates. Everyone should check that the PCTC is clear of film. [H]ardocp recently published a photo of a burnt up 1.1 gig BIRD where the user has left all the protective film on. Not a pretty site, must have smelled like a dead rat.

It's nice to know I'm not the only goofball ;). I've built many machines before and this problem had me terribly stumped for *hours*. Lucky for me the Pro2A shut off after the temp flew.

Solid as a rock without that darn tape! :D
