Hi,

Hoping someone cans shed some light on this...I installed
the board and all seemed well (I admit Is hould have done
a clean install of Win98SE on the new system, but it
detected all the new hardware settings and seemed to to
run OK, albeit slowly). Then I installe dteh VIA 4in1
drivers (possibly a slightly older version), but all
seemed to work. But the machine would not shut down
properly - mobo seemed to power down, but HDD, CDROM and
power supply etc were still on. I had to turn it off at the
plug socket. To restart windows, I could press reset
button to get monitor into sleep state, then again to start
reboot!!!! Have seen others mention this. Anyway, this
is what I did for 2 days, "shutting down" then tirning off
at the plug socket. Yteserday I turned on, and only got the
4 LEd's (i.e no bios startup of CPU init). I tried clearing
the bios settings via the jumper, and now I can feed power
into teh case and turn on via power on, but still 4 red
led's. I suspect it is the bios, but have no idea why its
screwed. Is it possible to get a replacement? Any other
ideas on what the prob could be? Can I flash a new BIOS
with the MSI flash spec, and how can I do this (if the
bios is the problem)? BTW, the diagnostic claims that
the CPU is not seated properly or damaged - I don't
believe this, it was working fine. And I don't see how it could have shifted either!!! That bloody clip is exerting
10^N psi (but its "safe" or so they claim). Any help would
be gratefully received...

Cheers - Patrick

I had the same thing happen to me the other night after I changed some settings in the BIOS. I was going to return it when I decided to remove 256 RAM stick that I thought was kind of fishy (bought it from Fry's) so when I did that it booted and the BIOS looked like it reset when I removed the RAM. Maybe I just got lucky, but I hope this helps.
