MSI K7N2L A: Initialization Error = No Boot?

bedrocked

Senior member
basically when i boot it goes thru the mem check and ide drive check and then right after that i get a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner. on the DLED it has 1 = Green 2 = Red 3 = Green 4 = Green which according to the manual means floppy drive initialization. so i've tried EVERY damn option in the bios to disable any reference to A: (yes i've even unplugged the damn thing) and it just won't boot up. i've tried clearing the cmos, i've tried running it in 'safe mode' etc etc etc. nothing works. all i want is to get the thing to boot from my cdrom so i can install XP 🙁

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

i thought it might be a problem with memory but i've use two different sticks

kingston hyper x 2700 and hyper x 3000

same problem with both 🙁

it's an enermax purepower? whisper 350w

i'll write down the voltages when i get home (@work at the moment), assuming i can read them in the bios?

is there an issue with enermax PSU's ? 🙁

beginning to think this is indeed a problem even with the hyper x memory.. great 🙁

Have you tried booting it with the safemode jumper set to the 100mhz safemode position? If so what did it do there?

PSU should be ok. Try the 100mhz jumper as suggested by NesuD. If no go, then try the memory w/ memtest. If the board doesn't like the memory you have, memtest will spew out a bunch of errors.
