I just installed a brand new MSI nForce2 mobo. (from NewEgg)

Using the onboard Video.

The very first BIOS screen says:
CR17 VGA BIOS
VERSION 4.1F.00.07.00
Engineering Release - Not for Production Use
Copyright(C) 1996-2002 Nvidia Corp.

What's that about? Should I request a newer/older BIOS?
I haven't seen any stability issues, but I haven't had time to do much (any) testing yet. Just got all the drivers updated/installed, and installed CS. (Runs fine, BTW)

Yeah, I got the MSI K7N2G-L and it had the same problem, the latest drivers available from MSI (www.msi.com.tw) sort this out (and even improved stability a little).

Drivers or BIOS? I haven't touched either system BIOS or video BIOS at all (yet).

If you're going to keep it, you would probably want to update the BIOS.

What I'm trying to figure out is if the Engineering BIOS version has features/whatever that's better/more advanced than the current production version(s).

From the report I read, this was a gaffe on MSI's part, and the boards with this BIOS had glitches. But hey, you can try it and see... :D

No point in doing the research, when mechBgon can do it for you! :D

I may have to install a new RAID controller in it tonight, so maybe I'll flash the BIOS while I'm at it. After that, I have to install SB so I can test the cooling in the system. (I haven't connected two of the case fans yet).

Thanks!

What they're trying to say is, if you're willing to wait, send it back and get another one.
