I have a MSI K7N2 mobo with the NVidia chipset. The AMD processer is a 1800XP, not o/c-ed.
Mushkin 256 DDR ram with heat spreader. I 've tried 2 other DDR ram also. ASUS 8x video card.
The problem is it seems to soooo loooong to boot up Win98se. Is this normal?

If it's just the -L like mine than it shouldnt be long at all because it's not loading/detecthing Sata or Raid devices. Mine boots XP Pro in about 15 seconds. But I've also got double the ram and double the processor so who am I to say anything. But you do have 98se that is very quick in boot time.

Yes, it is the MSI K7N2-L , MS-6570-010 mobo but I believe it's an earlier model with no 'delta' or any other suffixes. It has the NVidia N-Force SPP chipset which I neglected to mention with the first post.
I don't feel it's the AMD 1800XP or the 256mb. PC2700 of Muskin ram that heeds it.
This is a fresh loading of Win98se with very few programs on the Seagate 40 gig. Barracuda 7200rpm. I tried a WD 40 gig 7200 also with same slow boot ups. I also set the bios to optimal settings. I'm 'scracth'in' me head......

Install the latest nforce drivers. In any event, it's probably the NIC slowing down the boot process.

Good catch. In 98 this is a real problem with some boards and NICs that are set to get there IP via DHCP and there is no server. If this is the case just set an IP address on the card or disable it in the bios.
Most of the time it is the shutdown that takes longer when there is no DHCP server.
