MSI K7D Master L

I just got my athlon XP 2000+ for this mobo and installed it, but it wont post, simply gives a clicking noise and 4 red lights with the onboard diagnostc thing. The noise is definately not the hdd, or the cd, its coming from the mobo, not even the mobo speaker is making the noise, as ive tried this with all of these unplugged. Ive been reading through some other peoples problems with this board and they all seem to point to the CPU failure. Is there anything else it could be? I would rather try somthing else than have to send back and order another athlon xp.

BTW the chip does have a chip in the corner, but i hear thats pretty common and typically cosmetic only.

I had this board about 2 years ago so I'll try to help...
I do know that the red light guide is in back of the instruction book.

Are you using just the one XP chip? Has the chip been modded to an MP (or attempted)?

Good luck.

Yep, 4 LED's in the red means cpu damaged or not installed

I am just using 1 xp chip which i dont believe has been modded or changed in any way. I am trying to get a hold of another socket A chip from a mate to test that in the mobo. Odd's dont look good on that as the only xp he has belongs in his moms comp and hes also dying of typhoid or somthing..... who knows. Anyways i told the guy on ebay that my chip was DOA, and requested a replacement. Ive yet to hear his responce to that. I will probably have to send back this chip and have him recieve it to get a replacement.
