I just recently picked up a 900 tbird with a gig core. I have an Abit KA7-100 that won't boot with it so I got the k7 pro to run it. Now the fun begins! The tbird gets a hard lock in a few minutes of being on. I even took out the geforce2 and stuck in a pci card but it still locks. With out changing anything I put my classic athlon in and its rock stable. I don't know whats happening.

My system so far:
K7 Pro with 110 clock gen 1.7 bios
SBLive!
Elsa Gladiac
128meg Apacer Infineon ram
Adaptec 19160 scsi pci controller
tried both an antec 303X and pcpower&cooling turbo 300 power supplies

Sounds like it may be a heat issue with the Thunderbird, thats a classic symptom. Radarman

I'm using a fresh install of win98se. I have an artic circle on it, but the processor shouldn't hang when running at its normal speed should it? Anyway I gave up today and put my ka7 and classic athlon back in until I can isolate the prob.

On a side note I used a gfd to bring it down to 800 and it still locked up. I even tried 700 on the ka7 and it won't post. Maybe it might be the processor...who knows.

I agree, it sounds like you may have been unlucky enuff to have picked up a bad processor, can you return it for a replacement ?? That seems your best option now. Radarman

I don't know why the k7 pro and the t-bird doesn't work, but the ka7 and the t-bird might be incompatible. The ka7 is based on the kx133 chipset, which sometimes (with lower clocked parts) work with t-birds, but in many cases don't (that's why they released the kt133 chipset).
The ka7 is still one of least incompatible kx133 mobos to use with the t-birds, and there are some bios tweaks that might make the t-bird run, but I don't know exactly which (I have a asus k7v myself). Search the forums or ask at amd zone for that.

Impact55,

You got me thinking. I switched the fsb to 105 and it locked up quick. I then set it to 95 and I can't crash it now. I raised the multiplier to 10 and its kickin along at 955. Does the K7 Pro recognize 10.5 multiplier because it wont work with the K7OC gfd I have. Anyway, I'm so glad to see it actually working:)

before you put run it for the first time you have to clear the cmos with the jumper near the battery. the msi k7 pro is looking for a classic athlon. if you clear the cmos, it will accept your thunderbird. i suggest you reformat, flash your bios, clear your cmos, and start fresh.
