MSI K7 Master wont accept ram in more than 1 slot..

I had 512mb for a few months with no probs (2x256), then one day i started getting BSOD's and random lockup/reboots.. I removed the ram from the 2nd slot, leaving 256mb DDR, and it was rock solid, uptimes of months at a time. I RMA'd the Crucial pc2100, and when i got the new stick, i put it in and had the same problems, so it has to be the motherboard and not the ram.

any ideas? would flashing the bios have any affect, or am I just stuck with 1 ram slot? I remember on old abit BH6 motherboard, I flashed the bios to be able to add support for a 40 gig hard drive, and that made all the ram slots broke except the first one. when I flashed back to the old bios they all worked again.

I'm going to resurrect this thread here because I am having the EXACT same problem. I'm now in the process of RMA'ing my ram back to Crucial and haven't received my new stick yet. Did you get this resolved Valhalla or anyone else out there seeing something similar?

i got a new stick of ram from crucial, and it did the same thing.

so i am stuck still with only 256.. gonna try flashing the bios eventually but i dont want to lose my 2 month uptime lol

I did that same thing already Val, and at least on mine, it didn't make any difference. Let me know when you get yours done - we might need to hit the MSI forums/support for this one. It is too much of a coincidence that both of ours are doing the same thing. I have already been checking that forum, and noticed something in the BIOS for Spread Spectrum causing problems for some other people's system (but not exactly like ours). I'm not sure what this is set on mine, but maybe something to check out. I hope it's not the mobo since I don't want to go to the hassle of removing everything to put in the new one. If that happens, I'll probably just bite the bullet and get a new one altogether...maybe.
