I just put together an AMD Athlon system last night. I got the MSI K7 Master motherboard, a 1.4GHz (266) Thunderbird, and 256mb Crucial DDR memory. After getting my hard drive partitioned and Windows installed. I was looking around in the BIOS. I had actually noticed this problem prior to installing Windows, but since it wasn't a show stopper I decided to come back to it later.
Ok when I boot up the system it goes through the memory check and says that the CPU speed is 1050MHz. 10.5 x 100. So I go into the BIOS and set the multiplier to 10.5 and the PCI bus speed to 133/33. I then hit F10 to save and exit. When the system boots back up it does the memory test and then the CPU speed is now listed as 1400MHz. Ok everything is fine. I played some games surfed the net. Everything is nice and stable. I then power down the system and later when I reboot after the memory test the CPU speed is back at 1050MHz and there is a little message saying that the CPU speed has changed.
So how do I make the setting stay in the BIOS? Please use small words because this is all still pretty new to me.
Thanks,
Steve
