I bought an MSI K9N Platinum. I get 2 to 3 error beeps on posting. The error legend at MSI makes no sense in terms of what could be wrong. The board seems to be working okay. MSI says don't update bios unless something is wrong. I wrote to MSI and asked them a couple of detailed questions. I had to fill out an awful form that they don't save. Instead of answering my questions they just said load the latest bios. I tried the win98 disc method. I got an error trying to load the files to the ram drive. I tried to use their update software. It gets stuck while downloading the latest utility. I turn off the request for the utility and the rest run. It tells me I don't need anything. I go the MSI's live update site and it tells me I don't need anything. When I try to download the latest auto update utility from there I get a dead link. I write several more times to MSI. I get NO RESPONSE. I don't know what to do about the board. Neither does the shop where I bought it. I can't buy another MSI motherboard after this. I think I deserve a response from them.

I have the same motherboard and have the same issue (I get a short beep followed by two long ones). Interestingly I don't get a beep at all when the USB controller is disabled. I have updated the bios to 1.20 and the issue remains. Updating the bios however allowed me to run Windows XP x64 - before the update (from 1.00) the computer would turn off everytime I went to install something useing windows installer and at other random intervals. As everything appears to be working fine I am not too concerned about the strange beep codes.

I have a K8N Diamond Plus and got worried when it would beep at boot up - thinking the same thing as you that it must be an error code. After going to the msi forum (see IdaGno's link) I found that these are "normal start up beeps" and that there are no errors. It could quite possibly be that this is the case with your mobo as well.

That's a shame. MSI replaced a KT3-Ultra a couple years ago for me. It was out of warranty and died in a power surge, but they were stil willing to help me out (I told them all of this, too). They also sent me a free BIOS chip when my PC bombed during a flash. Of course, a lot can change in a couple of years and I'm sure these parts are only getting lower and lower margin. In that case, the first thing that gets cut is support.
