Wow. Just saw a hands-on of this laptop on Engadget. This is almost exactly what I've been looking for. I'd still prefer a refresh of the 14" razer blade with a better 1080p screen but this laptop is only 3/4 of an inch thick, weights about 4.4lbs has a crazy high res screen and (potentially) a Maxwell architecture Nvidia card. A bit pricey but so is every other laptop in this category.

I still don't get greater than 1080p screens in gaming laptops. I think very few if any gaming laptops will be able to run at native res if it is greater than 1080p. So couldn't games actually look worse downscaled on a super high Res screen than if they were run at native res on 1080p?

Or have the problems of running at less than native res been solved?

I am really looking forward to Maxwell mobile gpus, mainly hoping they will run cooler. Maxwell on 20nm, with the expected power savings of broadwell could be a really sweet package.

HA! Speak of the devil. AT also posted an article on the 800M lineup and the refreshed Blade is on there. Wow that looks like the perfect laptop. If they can keep the price to the same range as the 1st gen, I may finally jump back onto the gaming laptop bandwagon after a years-long hiatus. Based on the Nvidia charts, it seems like the 870m should quite comfortably be able to play most modern games at 1080p. I'd be curious to see how upscaled graphics look on that high res screen because you certainly can't play games at native res.

My buddy as the 1st gen rMBP 15, gaming in Windows is odd to say the least. Not all games work properly with the HiDPI display. Then there's the incredibly annoying issue of having to log out to change DPI settings.

I was thinking the same thing especially about the blade. My only thought is that the 3200x1800 res screen has exactly 4x the pixels of the 1600x900 screen from the first generation. So you can run any game at 16x9 with maxed settings and the upscaler would perfectly match 4 pixels to 1. Wouldn't the relative pixel size and the straight up pixel match minimize any artifacts? 1080p might be a different story since now you're using decimal scaling. Regardless, I think this would be a great article for the tech sites (especially AT) to cover since more and more laptop screens are popping up with ultra-HD displays.
