Wow look at that memory overclock in the Guru3d review... with the new memory OC plus core OC, real world gains are 16-20% over 1080 FE. That is approaching Maxwell overclock gains.

The one draw back is that custom MSI cards consume way more power than normal.

If it sticks to the $500 MSRP it's a viable option. The 1080 is in a better place then the 980 was after Ti launch, since the Ti is $50 more, but I tend to think once you can justify $500 for your hobby, whats another $200? Gotta make the 1080 great again.

Agreed that MSI power consumption is high. It's pretty close to the faster 1080 Ti FE. Pascal power consumption does scale worse with OC than Maxwell did, but given MSI's history I assume they are still using more power than needed. Their AMD 390 series cards were unacceptable in that regard.

I'm sure this was intentional per NVIDIA's instruction, but they should be comparing the OC against OC. Fact is, both cards pushed to the max score pretty close to one another. I'd like to see a complete analysis:

Evga released a bios today that upped the FTW2, and ICX 1080's to the 11GBPS. I flashed mine, and all is well.

So Evga is confident that all GDDR5X speced for 10Gbps could run at 11 anyway?

From checking reviews, it does seem like pretty much all 1080s could reach at least 11Gbps (from 10 which is 1250Mhz -> 1375MHz). But more than that is not guarenteed, and 1400 is about max, although TPU has a 1470Mhz OC on a 10Gbs model.

Guru3d with the new 11Gbps chips reached a max OC of ~1588MHz (12.7Gbps). Videocardz hit 1545Mhz. TPU only hit 1505Mhz. Lottery and/or more strict testing differences.

I think they just OCd your memory. I'd be shocked if the new bios somehow enabled max OC into the 1500s, and if it did then I wouldn't quite understand it.

Vram speed doesn't make a huge difference out of the box, but overclocked performance is the best I've seen on any 1060: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_1060_gaming_x_plus_review,40.html (averaging 15% real world gains at 1440p).

I think the faster memory models are only going to be 1060s and 1080s.

I wonder what Nvidia have against GTX1070 in this generation.
Only 3x GPC and 1920SP at launch.26% performance gap VS gtx1080 in latest tests(techpower up)(from 10% 670 vs 680 to 15-18% 970 vs 980 to 26% 1070 vs 1080) and now after year they didnt update it even with faster GDDR5 or GDDR5x.
They really should give it GDDR5x at this point.

Lets hope next gtx2070 will be alot better because so far 1070 is worst card in this generation.But hey ppl still buy it because AMD dont have anything in 400-500 euro price range.

Anyone know the part number of the ram modules on the Gaming X Plus 1060 ? Are they the same Samsung modules on the standard Gaming X??
