A quick question. I'm getting a MSI GeForce 8800 GTS PCIe X16 and will an Antec 400W power supply be enough? Thanks mucho for any response.

Is this the G92 GTS or G80 GTS? Pretty sure the G92 uses slightly less power, but either way I think its cutting it close. I could barely POST with an Antec TrueBlue 480W in a barebones C2D backup rig with a G80 GTS. To give you an idea of how close the margin was, it wouldn't POST with more than a single HDD and optical drive.

It's a

MSI NX8800GTS-T2D320E-HD-OC GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP

Looks like I should get a new PS, as well.

That is a very bad card to buy today, really. How much are you paying for it? It has only 320 mb of vram, which is not enough for today's games.

Not at all. Left 4 Dead, Bioshock, Fallout 3, etc all play great That is at 1680x1050 with 4x AA and 16x AF. Of course no AA in Bioshock because it is not supported :(

You can't even play GTAIV good with a video card with only 512 mb of video ram and that is what most people have.

I know video cards with 1 GB of ram more people are getting but the standard right now is mainly only 512 mb of video ram which is not nearly enough for even Oblivion or GTAIV. Even at 1680x1050 with all details on maximum with 4x AA and 16 AF.

Games? I stopped playing games long ago. I just want my gold and silver stock charts to look good. I don't invest my money or time in depreciating assets anymore. Well, except for this vid card!

Stock trading? No gaming?

Heh...

Just go with integrated graphics. An X2 4850e + 780G motherboard is low power and plenty of muscle for stock charts.

emmm. Stock trader may be using more than one monitor. At least that has been my observation when it comes to traders. The more they can see on as many screens as possible, the better. "I guess". Integrated graphics may limit him to one monitor only. depends.

This is what I was taking about in another thread before I even saw this one . Ah, what a mess

Nah, I think every card from here on out should be called HD4870.... I kid I kid. You are right though, no reason to have 2 different memory versions of the same card. A different name is warranted. Atleast it's not like the 8800 Fiasco: 8800 GTS 320, 8800 GTS 640, 8800 GTS 640 (112 sp SSC Version), 8800 GTS 512....lol, wtf. Esp, since the performance was so wildly different between the fastest and slowest.

Does Fallout 3 really works great at 1680X1050 with 4x AA? I highly doubt it. Maybe with less or no AA, but 4X, come on.... My 4870 chokes at 4X AA outside of towns.

Bioshock is not a new game. It worked fine even on 256mb 8600GT/GTS cards, up to a certain resolution, so it can't be a problem for a GTS 320. Left for dead uses the highly optimized source engine from Valve, so yeah, that should work smooth as silk too.

Right now GTA IV, needs a patch and a couple of new drivers, since its performance is extremely poor on any kind of cards, even on 1 gb ones.

My point with the GTS 320 is that it doesn't worth getting today. It might have been a good choice some years ago, but not now, when you could buy with the same money one good 512 mb card, that will prove faster in everything. But it all depends on how much is he spending on it.

On newegg, for example, a GTS 320 is around 89-99 $ while a 9800 GT can be had for just 20$ more and you get a lot more performance with those 20$ . So unless he gets it very cheap from someone, this card is totally not worth it.
