MSI Geforce 4 4200 Artifacting Issues

One of my friends recently purchased a MSI Geforce 4 4200 and out of the box the card seems to to have some issues as soon as it starts up. Before the computer goes to the GUI of Windows XP, everything looks trapezoidal (for the lack of a better word) and everything is distorted. After the comp boots up though, everything returns to normal. We have tried different drivers, flashing the bios on the card, the mobo, and almost everything else. Now I dip into the knowledge pool at anandtech for some answers. Do you guys have any ideas?

here's your first AT knowledge base answer...

That's just plain strange!

I'd say it may have something to do with hardware conflict, or the card is defective.. with only that being the problem it's just totally weird.
see if the computer shop can replace it for you,so you can try a new one. if you still get the crap, it's a hardware clash, if you don't, card's defective. i can't imagine it being drivers or anything but I could be wrong.

K, thanks. He ordered it from newegg, so it shouldn't be a problem exchanging it. We both were like WTF. Oh well, back the card goes. Gotta wait for a couple more opinions though. Thanks yield.

Try it with a different monitor and PC,if you get the same problem then it`s the card that`s faulty.

My friend figured out the problem, the motherboard was the issue. He placed the vid card into a diferent computer and no problems...Thanks again for the help 🙂
