Hey guys, I bought the MSI GT60 a month ago, didn't see anything here about MSI, so I decided to let everyone know about the MSI G-Series.

Since this forum doesn't allow more than 10 photos, I can't post the full unboxing images, so I'll just brief you guys.

First, MSI's G-Series includes notebooks that make use of the highest end graphics cards like the 780M at an affordable price. It includes:

  • GT70: 17", (i7+780M)
  • GT60: 15" version of the GT70
  • GX70: 17" Affordable gaming laptop that uses AMD's Affinity. (AMD A10 + 8970M)
  • GX60: 15" version of the GX70
  • GE70: 17" Portable gaming. (i7 + 765M in a slim case)
  • GE60: 15" version of the GE60
  • GE40: 14" (i7 + 760M)

Most if not all feature the fully backlit steelseries keyboard, Dynaudio sound, up to 3x msata SSDs in superraid (1500MB/s read).

Here are the models listed: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/#/?sk=Gaming Series

I would also recommend buying it from my favorite reseller, GentechPC. Ken over there helped me a lot with my purchase and keeps on supporting me. They also have a lot of freebies!

If you guys have any questions, let me know :)

Where does the Fangbook fall into these models? I could be wrong, but thought that it was based on a MSI barebone chassis.

Currently running a Sager NP8150 w/ an i7, 8GB, GTX560M, 240GB SSD and was looking to upgrade my gaming laptop soon. Feature set I'd like:

- 17" w/ matte screen
- i7 4800MQ (since I run virtual machines for work)
- 16GB of RAM (maybe 32GB, again, virtual machine use)
- GTX770M (don't need the horsepower of the GTX780M)
- hard drive I'll provide myself, a SSD in the 500GB range

I think its the barebones version of the GT70.

If you just want the 770M, the 2OC SKU provides that at a lower price than the 2OD with the 780M.

Figured I'd comment on this as I bought an older model of the Fangbook with a 675mx and i7-3620QM. The build quality is excellent and I'm really impressed by it overall. I think the cooling system may be a little underwhelming, I think there was an article not long ago about the new MSI cooling where they talked about the GPU and CPU heatsinks being cooled by 1 fan... well the Fangbook has done that since the first iteration. I've yet to experience any throttling with my moderate encoding and/or gaming usage, but it may be of concern.

Like I said though, build quality is impressive. I really have no complaints other than things I knew about when purchasing such a large and heavy machine... I'm sure the haswell refresh with the 770m is that much more awesome than this machine ;)
