I just ordered this card from NewEgg today. I hope to have it by this weekend for a Lan-War. I have seen some of the previous posts and I am a little nervous about it working based on some of the things that have been said. The negative remarks about this card seem to be coming from the same people. I know the cooling is loud but who cares as long as it kicks a**. Any input on this card and suggestions on cooling would be greatly appreciated.

I got one of these as well, despite this thread at the MSI forum. It will either work or it won't, I should know by Thursday, but for $15 more than what the Gainward 4200's are going for I thought I'd take the chance.

did you order from newegg?? they have lots of reviews from people and a lot of them claim to have defective cards.... and a while ago there was a thread here talking about the same thing.... (but gainward said that they have fixed the problem .... so that was just a bad batch to newegg.... or who knows maybe to all resellers..)

o by the way the defective cards are mainly 4400.... you shouldn't have anything to worry about

I'm wondering how many of these cards MSI sold and how many have been returned.
From the reviews that I read, the card is faster than the Gainward cause you can overclock it higher, and it's alot more affordable too. Plus the software that comes with it is awesome.

A little FYI.

I just received my AGP MSI GF4 Ti4400 on Monday. I have several computers. The two "rigs" below, which I built, and a Retail Compaq 5430US.

I decided to put the new MSI video in my Compaq. It is a P4 1.8 Ghz w/512 DDR running WinXP Home.

The card hiccupped when installing it's packaged CD drivers. It came up w/the three different warning messages saying I was about to overwrite some files with files of a "different language" and the new files were not written in English?? I chose "do not overwrite" the original files.

Then after installation and a reboot. I attempted to run MSI's 3D Demo.. it opened up a neat looking plane cockpit sort of interface then proceeded to crash explorer. Hmmm, I tried a second time w/the same result.

Ok, MSI has given me a live update program. It goes right to the web and looks at your card's BIOS and Drivers. It tells you what you have and if upgrades are available. My Drivers were the newest "proven" release, but there was a BETA version available. My BIOS was up to date. So I updated the Drivers. No "wrong language" messages this time.

Ok, reboot. Run MSI's 3D Demo. Nice cockpit screen.... crash.... hmmm. Ok, maybe 3D Demo is bad. So I installed the game Auqunox or something like that. It came with the video card. It worked w/no problems. Looked really good. Later that night I played about 2 hours of TFC.... no problems.

Shut down for the night.

Day two, Tuesday. Turn on PC around 4:30. Looks fine. Play about 1/2 hour of Medal of Honor. Worked fine. Let computer idle for about 3 hours while I was out. Came back and went on to internet. Was "surfing" for about 45 mins. I started downloading some map files for TFC and all of a sudden......

Red static like spots all over screen?? move mouse, they get worse?? about 20 secs later.... LOCK UP HARD... PC just shuts off and reboots. Upon reboot, I get a WinXP message saying I just had a Fatal Error ( No Sh#t ), please send a report to Microsoft. It says the cause was my MSI ti4400 driver performing an illegal function call. This happened again in about 15 mins...

I figured maybe it was overheating. I opened case and pulled the card from the PCI slot right next to the MSI video card.... I pointed a fan at the card... Ok, reboot... 10 mins.. red static... crash... Please send report to Microsoft.

Ok, back to MSI's sight.. Download original "proven" drivers from MSI. I do that and while installing I get the "wrong language" message concerning several DLL files. This time I let them be overwritten. No change, 15 mins and crash.

I have since pulled the card and put my GF2 card back in.. System runs like a charm.

I bought this card from Essential Computer in NY. www.essencompu.com I am going to call them and see what they have to say. I already e-mailed MSI and haven't received a response.

If you buy this card, it seems you need to keep your fingers crossed and hope you get one from the new batch.

Hey guys. I just received my msi GeForce4 4400Ti yesterday. My MSI K7n420 and Windows Xp picked up the card right away and without issue. So far so good. I installed Detonator Xp driver 28.32 and no issues. I think a card from the new batch. I hope things stay going well. Try to RMA your card and see if you get a good one.

I am RMA'ing my card.

Essential Computer seems really easy to work with. This MSI card was a replacement for a PNY piece of junk I got 2 weeks ago. It was a PNY GeForce4 Ti4400 and it was bad right out of the box.

Anyway, they are taking the MSI back, no questions asked and I am going to go with a ATI Radeon 8500. I have another system with a 7500 and it looks and performs great.

Good luck w/your GeForce 4's... I'll pick one up when the bugs are out.

Take care.

damn, I just ordered one of these last night. I read the posts on the MSI board and it doesn't sound good. How is NewEgg at handling RMA's. I'm assuming I have to pay for shipping back to them which I think sucks but other than that...

I did pay for shipping back on my RMA's.

As far as the MSI card goes. I actually got an e-mail response from MSI the day after I e-mailed their customer support... Imagine that.

Here it is:
Dear XXXXXXX,

It could be a defective card. It doens't look like a software problem to me. Can you first contact your vendor to see if they can replace the card for you because this is so much faster than going through us the manufacturer.

If you still need to replace it from us, please contact me again and I will issue an RMA for you.

Sincerely,

Peter Hong

I explained the whole situation to him. In a follow up e-mail he agreed that there might be a bad batch number out there. I think it was something like (m/lot 020). This is on a blue sticker on the back of the video card. Mine was a 020. I am not positive about this but that seems to be the general concensus.

Good luck.

Well, I'm considering cancelling my order and getting a PNY or a VisionTek. I'm just worried that I'll get a bad card and I don't want to deal with sending it back and waiting for another. I never had one problem with my PNY GF3.

I just spent a weekend reaming the crap out of mine and it worked great.:) I spent Friday to Monday at a Lan Party playing all kinds of games. Jedi Knight II, Soldier of Fortune II, Counterstrike, I believe that Jedi and SoF 2 are two of the most demanding games out right now and I ran them at 1600x1200 with all the game setting jacked up.

I also believe that there was a bad batch of cards, so for anyone looking for the best bang for your buck give this card a chance.

(Now for the benchmarking and overclocking)

I am interested in your scores. I would like to compare them to my 4400. I will also be posting my scores here soon.
