Hey! I am new to the forum. I am going to build my first computer and I've got an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, and I am stuck between:

MSI G41M-P28 - http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P28.html

ASRock G41M-VS3 - http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?model=g41m-vs3

Does anyone have any recommendations? Which one should I get?

Thanks,
Arthur

I have no experience with this exact boards BUT, the MSI one is looking more interesting, more expansion slots and a more conventional layout I think
also the MSI supports gigabit lan, the asrock is 100mbit,

So I would probably go with the MSI,

Get whichever board supports DDR3. It's much cheaper than DDR2, if you have to purchase memory for the board.

any reasons why you want to buy those since we now have Sandy and ivy bridge???

OP says he have an e6400

both are DDR3...
the chipset (G41) actually supports both DDR2 and DDR3

I think using DDR3 it's limited to 4GB, so 2x2GB should be the best choice

That used to be true with the P35, but I think G41/P45 supports 8GB of DDR3. At least, the Biostar G41 boards I built a couple of rigs with that take DDR3, I think said the max was 8GB.

I built two rigs with those boards, and used a single 4GB DDR3-1333 GSkill DIMM with each.

G31 only supported 4GB of DDR2, G41 only 8GB of DDR2 or 4GB or DDR3

G41 also is only PCIE 1.x, while P45 was 2.0,
