MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 Owners? Couple of Questions...

Hey,

Any MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 owners here? I've got a couple of questions:

1. According to what I thought was spec, this board supposedly supports DDR3 1866MHz RAM native (ie: not overclocking), however my G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-1866C9D-8GAB memory is showing up as 1600MHz.

I do have the option to force the memory to run at 1866MHz in the BIOS through overclocking, but I just thought it was odd that it wasn't running at 1866MHz natively.

Any thoughts on this? Did I get mis-labeled RAM?

2. I can't, for the life of me, find anywhere to adjust the allocation of system memory to the APU's GPU. It's grabbed 512MB of my system memory, but I want to feed it more! I had assumed this was possible on the FM2 platform.

Thanks guys!

My Gigabyte board misread my 1600MHz Samsung RAM when I installed it... just go into the bios and change it.

I don't have your board, but I did recently build a APU system around an Asrock board. Until the last BIOS update I did not have the option to change the amount of RAM allocated to the GPU either. With the latest BIOS update I have a setting called "Share Memory" under the CPU settings in the BIOS menu. If you don't have such an option make sure you have the latest BIOS installed as that should be where the setting is made.

Thanks for the replies guys.

So I heard back from MSI on the RAM 'issue' (they responded in a fairly short amount of time, so I'm fairly happy with their level of support at this point), they noted that the RAM will run at the JDEC standard speed. Upon doing some additional research, it appears that the CPU now controls the memory speed spec, and that the AMD APU is expecting 1600MHz at the top-end. So, I just have to go in and manually set the RAM speed as noted by Charlie98 in order to allow the BIOS to control the RAM speed rather than the CPU controlling it...quite interesting!

As far as allocating more RAM to the GPU, I'll have to do more digging in the BIOS for that, but based on my luck with MSI support, I'm just going to reach out to them as well. I do have the latest BIOS installed (v1.2) which is actually newer than the one listed on their site for download.

Thanks again!

Tornadobox:

To allocate more than 512MB of memory perform the following steps:

From the BIOS

1. Select "MSI Mainboard Settings"
2. "Advanced"
3. "Integrated Graphics Configuration"
4. Change "Integrated Graphics Devices" to "Force"
5. The "Integrated Graphics Share Memory" option will appear.
6. Select desired RAM amount.

Question,

Where did you get the new BIOS? I've been looking for a new BIOS for this board. Thanks!

Thanks, I ended up emailing MSI Support as well and they provided the same instructions. However, it turns out that labels are slightly different in BIOS v1.2, as there is no 'force' option. I had to select 'dual graphics' from the Integrated Graphics Devices menu in order for the Share Memory option to appear. I was concerned that this might screw with things as I don't run a discreet graphics card, but they assured me that it wouldn't be a problem.

I also did inquire about the Initiate Graphic Adapter (IGD vs PEG) in a non-discreet setup, but never got a straight answer on that (either setting seems to work fine however).

My board came with BIOS v1.2, so I'm sure it's due out on the website soon.
