Currently, MSI has three MPG GF units up its sleeve: the A650GF, A750GF and A850GF. As the model names imply, they come with capacities of 650W, 750W and 850W, respectively.
MSI backs the MPG GF Series with a limited 10-year warranty. The company didn't mention when the power supplies will be available to the public or how much they will cost.
No mention of which OEM they are using to manufacture them, but these units seem to check all the important boxes when it comes to quality/features.

However, it's a crowded market, so it will all depend on how MSI prices them (along with how well their build quality / performance is). I'm guessing here, but based on the 10 year warranty, I'd say the OEM will likely be either Seasonic or FSP. Of course, there are other factories that can make a high-end unit as well, so that's simply a guess on part based on what new products have been released before by other brands.

Huh. Interesting. Gigabyte makes PSUs too, how well do theirs sell? And I think I've seen them from Biostar at one point on Newegg.

Yup, MPG stands for "MSI Peformance Gaming".

And unless a person is a total noob, you always buy a gaming PSU (and gaming motherboards) in order to play games. :p

From what I've seen, they also come with flat modular PSU cables as well. Will be interesting to see the first quality reviews when they come out. I'm always for a new source of decent power supplies if they test out well. Maybe we'll even get a supply glut going so the prices will finally start coming down....

Gigabyte is self-branding SSD/NVMe drives as well. Looks like they are trying to go vertical integrated on the branding side.

PSU pricing is getting closer to MSRP every day now, and the best thing is retailers actually have some PSUs in stock!

For 2-3 months everything decent/good/great was sold out, and if someone needed a PSU, they had to go with a brand like Segotep or Apevia.

My problem is that they never seem to have the one I actually want in stock. But, you are right that things are improving if slowly. I'd expect absent something else going wrong that maybe things will be back to normal on the PSU front in a couple more months (by Black Friday at least, anyway).

I managed to grab my Corsair PSU in stock at Amazon and grabbed it right away. IIRC, it was only marked up a bit.

One thing I miss is the old PC Power and Cooling PSUs. Things were built like tanks. Mine lasted 15 years of use, until an old surge protector failed :worried:

Am I correct to assume this is just a re-labelled and made by one of the usual PSU manufacturers?
If so, what is the point besides some marketing BS? If they don't actually have their own design and production capacity, it won't give us more actual choices, not help with the PSU shortage. It will just finding an actually good PSU harder.

There are only a handful of companies that manufacturer PSUs, and these units will be produced for MSI by an existing OEM.

Interesting take on that. Can't say I agree with that at all. Companies like Cool Master, Antec, EVGA, Corsair, Thermaltake have always used OEM manufacturers to make their units.

Quality PSUs are easy to find now, and really have always been easy to find (outside of several months due to Covid19 and overseas production). However, the pandemic caused unprecedented supply issues for many products.

By hard to find I meant to find out which one is good. Because right now you can't rely on a Corsair, Be quiet et al being good or bad, you have to find an actual tear-down review regardless of brand.
I don't see the value added by Seasonic manufacturing a PSU, and Corsair adding some writing on it. it just adds cost and confuses buyers.

But even your interpretation of being able to find isn't correct, at least in the US. I've been looking to replace my 400W Seasonic PSU, and have found some that may be good based on tear-down reviews, but not actually available. I'm not even talking about getting a good deal (which would be a sign of good availability). I realize the market offers more in the 500W+ size, but smaller high-quality PSU are still rare. Sure, I could venture out and order from overseas, but that wouldn't be economical, practical, nor would I be able to have warranty.
