MSI dullie and ECC registered memory errors

okay I bought some registered ecc ram 4*256 since they are cheap.. Before I had 4*256 normal stuff..
Anyways no boot
Only option I changed was ECC on ..
then I got this message.
"ram parity error -checking for segment....
offending segment
d000
press f1.....

Anyways I enabled shadow for d000-something figuring it would cure the problem...
I would get to the blue screen (where nt tells you how much ram and CPU you have) in boot up of NT and is stuck there for like 10 mintues so far..
help

Well what brand of memory and where did you get it from? Not every stick of memory that is labled ECC will be ECC efficent. LMK .

sorry..
I got 4 sticks of 256 meg crucial pc133 cas2 ram.
I even disabled ECC and it doesn't want to boot with reg ecc ram..

Did you clear the CMOS before after installing it, i have the sameboard so i am trying to mimic similar effects with you.

Hmmm I am not sure if I cleared Cmos before installing the registered ECC ram. I did clear Cmos after I installed the ram. I stuck back in the unbuffered stuff and installed the latest bios I could find 1.8 off the MSI website. I then took the ram out and stuck in the registered ECC stuff (again only 2 sticks). I turned ECC off for now. I don't get the
"ram parity error -checking for segment....
offending segment
d000
press f1....."

Anymore however I still get stuck in the boot (blue screen of NT4 where it tells you how many cpu and ram you have).

I let it sit for like an hour still nothing.

I enabled 4-way interweave. But my settings are not very agressive since I only had cas 3 ram before. Do you think it is the 4-way?
Does registered ECC not do 4-way?

This is the only tweak I did.
Also how do disable this again. I rememmebr it is some little file that gets booted up when the OS starts I forget what file it was. I used WPCedit to set it

The 4 way could do be the reason but it could be the board disagreeing with the memory itself. If you could try the memory in another system to see if it works?

hmm I don't have another mobo that supports ECC registered ram...
Do you know how I can disable wcpredit?
what file should I look for and where to disable this.
then I will boot it up if it doesn't work I guess I will return the ram to crucial and get unbuffered ecc or at last resort unbuffered non ecc.

Registered = Un-Buffered
Buffered = Non Registered

Registered RAM and Buffered RAM are keyed in such a way that a motherboard will accept one or the other, but not both, unless a motherboard was made with 2 types of slots.

Registered memory relies on the motherboard having the necessary circuitry to drive it. Buffered memory has it's own driver circuitry, etc.

Just wanted to point out that if you return the Registered RAM to get Un-Buffered RAM, you'll be getting Registered RAM...
