Soo ever since I got my card I have not had it stable. for example. FEAR 3 will play @ 1150v 1000mhz core then crash later on. Crysis 2 would shutdown comp immediately as the opening screen comes. Just Cause 2 ,, comp shutdown, and mostly all games comp shutdown even if I OC in MSI Afterburner by 1mhz and dont touch the voltage,, I take the 851 to 850 and crysis 2 works and all games work again.

Soo OCing doesnt work with Afterburner obviously. Not even 1Mhz,

Soo I downloaded EVGA Precious and baaaaaaaam I can overclock and play Crysis,, I got it to 900 core now Crysis 2 and all games running smooth 60fps lock.. 1080p 8xAA 16x AF vsync on...thank you..

Did you use the latest version of MSI Afterburner? It really shouldn't matter since they both are basically the same thing as the people behind rivatuner made both.

Also, not all GTX560 Ti cards will be able to do 1000mhz. I find it unusual that the software program is what caused instability issues for your overclocks.

Maybe your card just can't handle 1000mhz. You haven't tried 1000mhz on EVGA Precision have you?

Yes sir, the latest Beta 2.20 beta 7

Shure would be nice if Precision allows you to change the voltage. What can I do to change the voltage or was MSI the only way. thanks gg

tweakboy, the issues you discuss in your OP are some of the instability issues that can happen if you are using afterburner to monitor/adjust GPU voltages while also having more programs reading/monitoring the GPU voltage.

Something odd is going with your setup, I don't think your experience is all that common.

It's simple. I go to afterburner and put 851Mhz on core, default is 850. Then I launch any game and I get instant comp shutdown. So I stopped using MSI and installed EVGA precision and now I can OC to 900Mhz core and play Crysis 2 for 3 hours straight and Mass Effect 2 everything working fine. I have no OSD I turned it off renamed the file dont need that stuff, Ill use fraps thank you.

Your setup is overclocked in every which way. I wouldn't be shocked if there was some instability somewhere, something not related to Afterburner.

it sounds like it may be changing something other than just 1 MHz if it is even that which causes the crash.

Doubt Afterburner is the real source of his instability....he's used every trick to OC his Q6600 (pencil mod on the motherboard, etc.), OC'ing his RAM almost to its point of instability, essentially OC'ing every piece of his hardware to its limits and he's surprised a bit of software is causing problems? And honestly, comparing an OC to 1000MHz to an OC to 944MHz isn't in the same league.

Most likely a software conflict.....but you won't get him to fess up to all the software, warez or legal, running on his system that oculd be the root cause......just too easy to blame a decently written program vs. really ferreting out the real cause for the instability.

Did you just use a swear word, tweakboy? :D

Anyway, afterbutner has worked fine for me with my previous hd 4770. Might try it on my new piece of crap soon.

lol got a really good chuckle out of 'afterturtle'

You really need to check your system for other software that monitors voltages, these do not play nice with afterburner when you have voltage control enabled under it.

Things like everest etc. Any other program that is taking a read of the voltages on your GPUs can make afterburner go haywire. Which if precision works okay for you, sounds like the issue.

Precision is shit too. Set fan speed to manual, crank it up to 100%, and watch, as it eventually, randomly, "forgets" your fan speed setting and it resets to default (which on my cards was like 37%). And since the fan speed is set to manual, not auto, it won't increase with temps, which then means that your GPU hits 105C (in my case), and overheats, and the fan bearing gets warped, and now it's noisy and runs about 3C hotter than it should.

TL;DR

Precision is buggy and causes cards to overheat and die.

I'll look forward to your next "xxxxx game doesn't allow overclocking" post. :)

You won't get it because Im using EVGA Precision and I can OC to my rig sig and play games for hours.

900 core is good spot without voltage touching.

With MSI I OC to 851 and games would crash. Obviously a bug, why is everyone jumping on me. Im the messenger.

FFS STOP double posting every time you comment.

nobody else seems to have this issue. I will give afterburner a try myself later on just to see what happens.

Yeah i've had mixed results with OC'ing utilities as well. I get crashes when oc'ing with sapphire trixx or MSI, but CCC works fine  I have no idea why that is.
