I just received this card today

MSI NX8800GT 512M OC GeForce 8800GT

512MBhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814127329

which utilizes pci-e 2.0 . my motherboard is a Asus A8V-E Deluxe , which I am sure is not pci-e 2.0 and probably 1.0 or 1.1 . With the card installed and the power plugged in , the card does not display any picture , but the computer boots past BIOS and into windows as normal (i can put in my password and hear the windows welcome sound even though no picture). Anyone have any ideas? I have read that pci-e 2.0 is backwards compatible.

500W Antec power supply . Board previously had a Gigabyte 6600 card in it . No overclocking has been done. There were only a few options for pci-e bus in BIOS , all of them were left auto or default.

Contemporary Mainboards May Have Issues with PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Cards.

"Nevertheless, there may still exist some compatibility issues between the contemporary mainboards and upcoming graphics solutions. Asustek Company has actually warned its users against such issues recently.

It turns out that Asus Blitz mainboards based on Intel P35 chipset and using a special CrossLinx chip to support ?PCI Express x8 + PCI Express x8? configurations have limited compatibility with graphics cards supporting PCI Express 2.0 bus. In particular, the primary PCIEX16_1 slot complies with the PCI Express 1.1 standard that is why it supports PCI Express 2.0 graphics cards. The secondary PCIEX16_2 slot meets only PCI Express 1.0/1.0a requirements that is why if there is a PCI Express 2.0 graphics card installed in it, the system may not be able to recognize this graphics card as well as the graphics card installed into the primary PCIEX16_1 slot."

Now this doesn't refer to your motherboard but it's quite possible that you can have issues with 8800GT cards and your board. Contact Asus technical support for clarification or their forums directly.

I would check and see if msi has released any bios updates for your card. Evga has released bios updates for their cards to make them more compatible with non gen 2 mb's.
