Hey everyone, I have been working towards making my computer silent (well as quiet as I can get it) as of late and was wondering if the fan on the northbridge is neccessary. I have a MSI Neo 875P motherboard and want to unplug the fan and and remove it to reduce system noise. Will this be dangerous for the motherboard? I am not overclocking and don't plan to so that shouldn't be an issue. Below is my current system configuration in case it helps answer my question.
Case: Antec Lanboy (Older One)
Mobo: MSI Neo875P (Can't remember if its the LSR or FIS2R... I have the one without gigabit lan)
CPU: P4 3.0
Memory: 2 x 512 DDR400 Kingston Ram
HD: 2 x Maxtor SATA 160 GB and 1 Westertern Digital 80 GB
Video: Sapphire Radeon 9600Pro 128 MB
Sound Card: Creative Audigy 2
Optical Drives: Lite-ON DVD Writer and Lite-ON CD-Writer
Currently, I am running a stock Pentium 4 Cooler. The MSI Corecell software usually reports around 33-34C System temperature (When just surfing the internet etc) and 49-52C CPU Temperature. This seems pretty high to me for I have seen reports and most people idle in the high 30's to low 40's. Anyways
I have ordered the Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu and am using Panaflow L1A Fans (21 db). Hope this information helps.
Basically, my 2 questions are:
1. Can I remove the fan on my northbrdge?
2. Is 49-52C CPU temperature for when I am just surfing the internet high?
Any Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
