hi

i see the official 865 thread above, but nothing with regards to the MSI 875 board. i'm looking for input and peoples experiences with it. any bugs, problems, things to be aware of ?

also, i already have a p4 3.06 CPU, but its a 533, not the 800 mhz FSB one, so if i run it on this board, which ram can i buy and pop in so it works right away without me having to change any sort of timings or overclocking anything etc. i'm looking for best possible performance while retaining compatibility, stability and ease of use.

thanks.

Some people have had a real rough time with this board and some people have had an easy go of things. I myself have had pretty much no problems, it has a great feature set and is super fast. There have been reports of some people having trouble with running fast memory timings but that problem has been plauging a lot of 875 boards. As for what RAM you should use.....I use Corsair Twinx512-3200llpt and have to run it at slower than stock speeds, it is meant to run at 2-2-2-5 but I run it at 2-2-3-6. There isnt a noticeable performance difference but you said you didnt want to change any settings.....Overall my experience with the MSI 875 board has been very good, others have had some bad experiences.

There is an official thread for the MSI 875 boards here, it shows up on the front page for me with the rest of the official MB threads, there is some good feedback in there as long as you realize that the different BIOS version have changed a lot with this board. Versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 and 1.4 all work pretty well if you're not an overclocker, the revised version of 1.3 is the way to go if you want to overclock.

If you have any questions for me let me know!

You've provided some very good information in short Mac. Thank you.
I read a lot of bad stuff about it, but I've set my mind on this too. I am not into overcloacking too much, so if it runs fine with the latest bios when not overclocking, that's all I need.

BTW! here is the official board thread, in case if it's not showing on the fromt page.

Thanks.

STAY AWAY from it, it's crap. both the MSI 865 & 875.

you're much better off with an Asus P4P800 or an Abit IS7.
