MSI 845E Max boards, question on PCI/AGP is lock and Memory Speeds...

dude

I don't see a setting in the MSI 845E (MS-6566E) bios to enable the PCI/AGP Lock. There is, of course, CPU FSB settings...

Also, there's a setting for memory which is 200, 266, and auto. What's that mean? I have some Infineon 7ns and Crucial 7.5ns and if I set it to 125 CPU FSB and set the memory to 266, it won't post. Is setting my memory to 200 slowing my memory down by alot? Is this the ratio setting?

Dude, AMI Bios really blows. Should have picked up a different board that contains Award Bios. :|

MSI boards are not good overclocking boards. They dont have the PCI/AGP lock. 200 and 266 would be 1:1 and 3:4 mem ratio.

Running 125 FSB would be:
1:1 = DDR250
3:4 = DDR333

I dont know if the ratios actually work on that board. They didn't on the MSI 845D board. Maybe your ram cant handle DR333. Try just one stick.

depending on the motherboard....

that 200 266 ddr might become 4:3 and 1:1 at 133+ fsb 🙁
(youll have to tell us tho)

Ok, found out something at least.... I have it set to 200 for memory instead of 266. It's been running for about 2 days stable at 140FSB and Prime95 has been running for many many hours. My memory is running at 180mhz. I haven't tried to see if it's stable but it will do 150 FSB and I haven't tried higher yet.

So if I set it to 150FSB, my memory should be at 200mhz. Not bad for memory that is supposed to run at 166, but not great.

Still, I can get better memory. It looks like PCI/AGP are my main concern now.

kewl - then you do have the ratio 🙂

yea PCI speeds are hairy 150+.

do you know if your board has a 1/5 PCI divider @ 166? could jump to that and save a few headaches. (and maybe a sound card, hd, or nic) 😉

you better turn the ratio off for that tho.

I'm gonna play with it and try. Now, I just got to get off my lazy butt and go get some better memory first. 😀

If I recall correctly, all of the MSI boards lock the PCI/AGP at 33/66 after 123 MHz. I recall this from somebody over at the MSI forum. (Sadly, I can no longer bring that information back because the MSI Forum was hacked and everything was lost. 🙁 ) But he ran some tests on the PCI and AGP speeds and saw that no matter how high he set the fsb, the PCI/AGP was always at 33/66.

Mine maxed out at 162 Mhz with the utility, but it don't last long. She seems to like 157 tho. I think I am getting hd coruption any faster. I wonder if 166 will divide the pci again? All my voltages are stock to get it up to 162. Tore my system apart to put in water cooling so now I have to wait till next Monday to try 166 and she if my pci goes back down to 33 Mhz.
