I have an MSI 785GTM-E45 w/ a Phenom x2 555 BE, all 4 cores unlocked, runs fine for 8 hours w/ Prime95, but the CPU temp in the bios tends to run around 50C for whatever reason. Of course no temp monitoring programs work accurately in Windows w/ the extra 2 cores unlocked. I've re-applied the thermal paste, and it's still running hot. The thing is, even with only the 2 cores enabled, it's still well over 40C in the bios, usually between 45-50C. The cooler is an OCZ Vanquisher, seems to be running fine, but the CPU just seems to be running exceptionally considering I'm in the bios and it should be idling.

Any ideas? Should I step up to a better cooler?

Phenom II, especially the ones with cores disabled, are often inaccurate with their temperature readings. I've seen a couple that just read 40c in bios without fluctuation.

Oh and your cooler is fine and I doubt re-application of any thermal paste will do anything.
