The first board I bought was dead on arrival. Then I exchanged one and bought another (well didnt exactly buy it-came with the cpu for free). They both were running fine one in the HTPC and one as my personal desktop. The desktop I unlocked/overclocked (560 x2 cpu), while I was testing it with prime95 it shut off and the power led blinked. After that it never turned on again. I sent it to msi and they quickly sent me a new one back. I have been running the board for a few weeks now with no issues. What I am wondering is if it was just a fluke or is unlocking/overclocking the cpu more strenuous on the motherboard? Is it possible this board just isnt up to the task and is better suited for running stock? Or was it just bad luck? Im debating weather to unlock/overclock again. I seem to have a nice cpu so its kind of a shame to just leave it stock lol but on the other hand being without a computer is really inconvenient.

What do you guys think? How likely is it that overclocking killed the board? It seemed to be working perfectly until I unlocked/overclocked and ran prime95.

EDIT: FOUND THE PROBLEM....MOBO SUPPORTS 95W, CPU WHEN UNLOCKED IS 125W.

The unlocking teh cores feature is just that, a feature of the board. Enabling it should not result in board failure. Running crazy VTT NB or CPU voltages may put a strain on the board, but bumping them up conservatively should not destroy your hardware.

Strange that some people have had such bad luck with MSI, the MSI gear I have is truly great performing hardware. My 890gx board can OC a PII x6 to 4.0Ghz and does so well.

Would it be a power supply issue?

No, that was the first thing I thought but I tested the PSU on another system and it ran fine. Now that the motherboard came back everything is working fine with the exact same components. So the motherboard definitely died.

Any other oppions? Could overclocking or unlocking add stress to a budget board/weak board and kill it? I am wondering if I should overclock or unlock again.
