how are they looking to deliver 200 watts to the card with only 1 6 pin connector?

Despite the stock photo they used, it will probably ship with 2 connectors if they want to keep it in PCIe spec at 200W TDP. Also, you can run cards out of spec like they did with the 5970 practically begging you to run that card over 300W (read reviews of the 5970 if you don't believe)

They announced the 7850 power edition on April 19th--still no stock anywhere in the U.S. that I've seen. Can anyone overseas confirm/deny availability?

Sigh. Wtb assuming any markup is reasonable.

Overclockers.co.uk has it in preorder.

Forums say it should arrive sometime this week from the oc.co.uk representatives.

Else i've heard NOTHING.

Basically this^ somewhere along the lines i read a post by an MSI rep and he said about 2 weeks a few days ago, but keep in mind he might be talking on UK only timeframes.

I too am waiting on this card i just hope it doesnt go the route of a super price premium that practically puts it in the next tier and makes no sense to buy. I cant wait to read reviews and see if the extra power makes a difference for getting well above 1200..how much room is there by just adding better power capabilities but still on air...

A six pin connector is capable of drawing 150 watts, just like a 8 pin. All you are adding are two grounds in a 8 pin.

and thicker wires for the 8 pin.

but if they are looking to draw 200 watts of continuous power, I would feel more comfortable with a 2 6 pin connector config setup like xfx.

The 6 pin PCI Express power cable officially provides only 75 watts, but it is extremely conservative. The gauge wiring on a 6 pin and a 8 pin should be exactly the same.

I dunno; at the end of the day, the 7850 core is going to clock as high as it's gonna clock. There's only so much that clean voltage and good cooling can do. I would be shocked to see these cards break the 1300mhz barrier on the core.

What this should hopefully offer is guaranteed flexible voltage control and a decent cooler.

How does the current Twin Frozr II card not offer that already?

What do you mean by "flexible" voltage?

Read the pages of their marketing.

Also several 7850 have reached 1300 mhz with decent cooling.
Some of the reviews of OC'ing 7850 have hinted in "current issues"(as in volt stability) not being stable enough for going high on OC.
More phases would theorecticly fix that.

IF...they do it right - one can hope.

Cause you had a bad experience with a reference 7850, doesn't mean the previous results from other owners are invalid :).

Anyone hearing about this review...sites.. ANYTIHNG.
Please let us know - this could be the potential monster star of 28nm cards for value.

Don't screw it up msi! don't!

I think 1.3ghz is the upper limit on 28nm so far, we've seen it with gtx680, 7970s, 7950s and 78xx.

So any extra TDP version is "meh". I know from reading around that Asus, MSI and twin fan Sapphire 7850s often hit 1.25ghz with vcore, and a bunch hit 1.3ghz. It's definitely not lacking in power that prevents them from getting higher clockspeeds.

Yes but a stronger build will make a more stable card. MSI's cards have been known for being great over clockers while staying cool & quiet.

Techpowerup has reviewed the 7870 Hawk. It has every O/C feature they do. It even has a dual bios! In the end though it's no faster than the Asus DCII while being louder and using more power. Oh well, it's not for the lack of trying.
