It should be a setting in the CMOS. See p. 3-7 in your manual. 🙂

Harvey is right its in the book on page en32 and in the Bios under Overclocking (adjusted Dram Frequency)

I have that exact same board ever since it came out and its still going strong... I`m running a 2600K @ 4.6Ghz with 1.312 volts and some 2133mhz DDR3 Gskill memory... In other words I like it...!😀
 
Yes you can run your DDR 3 1600 memory and get a performance improvement from it on the board. I do advise that you make sure that any memory that you run is 1.5v or lower. Using memory with a higher memory voltage can damage the processor's memory controller and void the warranty on the processor.
