MSI 6600GT...

Logical One

Senior member
decided to focus on my CPU for now...cuz cutting out the 7800GT will allow me to get an X2 (I always run many things together and being able to game while encoding a DVD is too great an option for me...

I will get a higher end card soon...but will a 6600GT on 1024x768 play HL2 and Doom 3 etc...with at least 60 FPS...

CPU=X2 4200+

i'd def get a 6600GT (and anyway, i'd assume your mobo wouldn't have an AGP slot, so the 9800 pro is not an option)....should be fine for both those games at 1024 (thats what i play them at on my 6600GT, and my cpu is a 2.1GHz tbred-b 😉))

6600GT glory days are over !!

I want too see a 7600GT or i would look towards low end ATI card : X800GTO2 etc or buy a X850pro of ebay for $180ish and then mod it to X850XT and clock it to 600/620.

no glory...just looking for a temporary fix for a few months...I wouldn't be able to afford proper fanning and PSU for the 7800 if I purchase it right now...

will upgrade my CPU now and vid-card in a few months...

well, then a 9800 pro is all you need. save yourself 30-40 bucks and put that in the short term savings for a new card. a 9800pro handles doom 3 at 10x7 and hl2 at 12x10 fine.

if u can find a 9800 pro for $110 or less get that. Otherwise get a 6600gt cause some brands are $130, and a 6600gt is worth $20 for bit more speed and features.
