I have problems with starting the MSI 645 Ultra and retaining settings from one statup to the next. Randomly the system will not start. The power LED will light up but the fans do not come on and the system does not boot. It seems that this happens most after the system has run for a while and is then restarted. Much cussing!!
I called MSI tech support and they told be to remove and reinstall the CPU, all of my connecters, and cards. They also suggested that I short my CMOS, and reload the BIOS. I did all this with no improvement. I also downloaded and installed BIOS version 1.3, installed all of the Windows XP updates, and also installed the latest drivers for my video and sound cards.
At times the BIOS values seem to change at startup and my USB mouse will not work when Windows comes up. Sometimes the mouse will work if I unplug it and then plug it back in. Other times this doesn't work and I have to reboot and make sure that the latency settings for USB are enabled.
A couple of times when I could not get the mouse to respond I had to turn the machine off. This really fouled up th BIOS and I got messages saying that the battery was low and that the memory settings were wrong.
I have had the machine running great but any small upset from loading new software or trying the high performance settings in the BIOS can put this thing in a downward spiral.
I have previosly built six other machines and I have worked with PC hardware for several years. I have overclocked most of my other PCs with good results. Obviosly I have not tried to overclock this machine.
Any and all sugggestions are welcome.
