What one is better???

MSI 645 is 73 bucks... Epox is 99.00

I'm looking for a P-4 MOBO for a friend. 1.8 or 2Gig. Need a good reliable board for under 100 bones...

Any opions on these would be great! 🙂 Want to do DDR ram of course...

Thanks for you input.

The MSI 645 Ultra is a nice board for the price. To be honest, if money is not too big a problem I would suggest the Intel based DDR boards. I have built 3x P4 systems recently and I was really impressed with the MSI 845 Ultra-AR board with ATA133 RAID.

I'm using an MSI 645 and it's a nice board for $73. Only problems I've had are the vcore temperature doesn't seem to work, although there are other P4 boards that also have this problem, and the vcore can only be adjusted to 1.6v max with a Northwood.

I have built a P4 with the MSI 645 Ultra333, it was very easy, and apparently the system is running great. For $73, it is a bargain.

But I would suggest the Gigabyte GA-8SRX, it is a better performing board, and it is only $80 at www.mwave.com.

Have fun!

Isnt the MSI 645 Ultra & Epox DDR Based Boards?

Or am I missing somthing with the 845?

Thanks...

There are two DDR chipsets for the P4...the Intel i845D and the Sis645. The two boards you mentioned, the MSI 645 Ultra and the Epox 4SDA+ are both based on the Sis 645 chipset. So is the Gigabyte GA-8SRX that someone mentioned. The Sis645 boards are faster at default speeds than the i845 when paired with PC2700 DDR, but the i845 overclocks a bit better. The MSI 845D based boards are the 845 Ultra-AR, 845 Ultra-ARU, 845 Ultra, and the 845 Ultra-C. The Epox i845D based boards are the EP-4BDA and the EP-4BDA2+.
