Are the major changes for nVidia cards only?

Maybe someone can help with this issue. I'm running beta 17 and I can change the voltage on an AMD 290 but can't on a 7950 that is in the same system.

That same 7950 was in another system with only 7950s and I was able to change the voltage without problems (using an older version of AB).

Anyone know what could be causing a conflict using a 290 and 7950 in the same system and not allowing me to change voltage on the 7950? Using the HIS iPower program, I CAN control voltage on the 7950, but in AB, it's all greyed out. I would like to do all clocks/voltages with ONE program if possible so any help is appreciated. :)

http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/download_msi_afterburner_3_beta_18.html

Change notes:

  • Added low-level I2C access driver for AMD Bonaire, Curacao and Hawaii graphics processors. Low-level I2C access driver provides much faster access to I2C bus than ineffective native AMD ADL I2C access interface and addresses issues with GPU clock throttling when enabling voltage monitoring on AMD RADEON R9 290 series graphics cards
  • Improved AMD ADL access layer with Overdrive 6 support to provide compatibility with future AMD GPUs
  • Regular and SE versions of MSI Afterburner are now merged into single installer. Added voltage control mode selection option to the “Compatibility properties” section in “General” tab. Now you can toggle between reference design, standard MSI and extended MSI voltage control modes
  • Added “boost edition” / ”GHz edition” GPU type selection option for reference design AMD RADEON 7970 and AMD RADEON 7950 based graphics cards to “AMD compatibility properties” section in “General” tab
  • Added GPU usage averaging algorithm for Overdrive 6 capable AMD GPUs. Now displayed GPU usage is being averaged by sliding window to smooth GPU usage artifacts occurring due to bug in AMD ADL API on AMD Sea Islands GPU family
  • Added optional unified GPU usage monitoring path via D3DKMT performance counters. Power users may enable it via configuration file as a workaround to replace native vendor’s GPU usage monitoring if it is working improperly (e.g. broken GPU usage monitoring in AMD ADL API for AMD Sea Islands GPU family)
  • Added “Use dedicated encoder server” option to “Videocapture” tab
  • RivaTuner Statistics Server has been upgraded to version 6.0.0
  • Included MSI Gaming skins

Thanks for the heads up OP!

When MSI came out with AB, I was like whatever, I was used to Rivatuner and such from way back but it didn't make me want to buy MSI more than other brands.

But now that I have experienced frustrating alternatives like Trixx and GPUTweak, I have new appreciation for Afterburner. (Example: Sapphire Trixx STILL doesn't support the 7990 which came out half a year ago!)

The last remaining reason why I didn't like buying MSI--their use of tiny, noisier fans--looks like it no longer holds true at least for the R9 290 series, so I may be buying more MSI in the future.

Also MSI AB generally works with every card and isn't vendor specific :)

AB does not work on some Sapphire cards (non-reference). All the more reason why I don't really want to buy nonref Sapphire cards in the future so long as they don't update TRIXX. It's particularly galling to me that Sapphire can be so disinterested in updating TRIXX, when they make 40% of AMD's graphics cards apparently. http://www.digitimes.com/newregister/join.asp?view=Article&DATEPUBLISH=2013/12/25&PAGES=PD&SEQ=215

Thanks for the news.

I wonder why my MSI AB did not warn me of new versions, although I have selected it in the options. Oh well...!

Is overvolting the 290/x's supported officially in this version? At launch it was said that in a future version of AB it would be supported.

Great mod - Keep in mind the voltage/LLC tool only works on cards with the NCP4206 voltage regulator, which all reference cards have. So it won't work on GTX 780 HOF, Classified and Lightning cards.

Hmmmm. Maybe I can beat a pair of 7950s ahead of me in the Valley thread now

Not quite true. The installer for the new Afterburner has both the standard and SE versions included - the SE version is specifically designed for cards with the CHiL VRM. So if you have one of the above cards, the SE version of afterburner will be installed (as opposed to standard) which will allow you to tweak to your hearts content. Or it may be for the lightning only. Not sure.

In any case, the HOF *should* work with this, and you don't need this at all with the Classified. The classified has a "classified voltage controller" software program that works independently of Afterburner or Precision.

Regular and SE versions of MSI Afterburner are now merged into single installer. Added voltage control mode selection option to the “Compatibility properties” section in “General” tab. Now you can toggle between reference design, standard MSI and extended MSI voltage control modes

I do recall with the Lightning that the SE version had higher over-voltage options (up to +100? I think..), whereas the standard was stuck at the normal +38mV. Unwinder combined both versions in a single installer package this time around.

He's talking about the overvolt mod not MSI AB :)

Also normal and SE versions are now rolled into one with a check box in properties.

I think I'm missing something. As far as I'm aware LLC == Last Level Cache, why would you want to disable that? :\ I guess it means something different in GPUs...

Load Line Calibration. That is the only term overclockers care about.

In case no one noticed - the bundled RTSS v6.0 has 64-bit application support = OSD in BF4!

This is very good. Now my auto overclock kicks in without me having to hit F2, and I can also monitor my system loads.

In a quick game I played on Silk Road, I was using 1.96gb of VRam, but the game was smooth as butter. No hiccups at all, even with massive explosions going on all around me. This is on Ultra preset @ 1080p with motion blur set to zero and depth of field set to 100%. Everything else left at default values.
