MSI 266 Pro2 Problems - Please Help!

I have a new system (stats below) that shuts off in the middle of doing things. It will sit there forever, but when I do certain things (copy files in explorer and Max Payne), it restarts. Max Payne is odd because the task bar shows through into the game. I have adjusted the bios setting to the lowest performance possible, and flashed the bios.
And sometimes it won't boot, and I have to try to boot it 3 times before it finally does.

All the hardware worked fine with a ASUS A7M266 and 1.4.

I have a custom HS fan setup consisting of 2 blowers. They are connected to the MB. I wonder if they are drawing too much power?

Please offer suggestions.

Athlon XP 1700
MSI K7T266 Pro2
Kingston Value Ram 256 MB x 2
IBM 40 GB HD x 2
ATI All In Wonder
No name NIC
Soundblaster Live
Intel Modem
12X DVD
16X10X40 CDRW
300W PS (not the cheap kind)
Win 98 SE

Did you do a reformat and reinstall everything? Generally when you switch mobos... you need to do it. Have you updated the BIOS? I think MSI has released an update since the Pro2's launch.

Thanks for the reply tazdevl. I updated the bios, but did not format. However, I did manually remove all the MB components in safe mode prior to installing the new MB. When I went from a Celery 300a to my ASUS A7M266, I did not reformat and everything worked fine. I could format, but I really don't want to install everything again.

Interesting. Some people with the Epox and Shuttle boards with the KT266A chipset have also ran into these problems.

I've got the 8KHA+ (Epox), and only have minor issues resetting the machine from Win ME when I overclock over 150 FSB. Below this everything is fine.

Perhaps some issue with the KT266A chipset, we'll have to wait and see.

I'll bet that's because they didn't start fresh, and format the hard drive like tazdevl mentions.

Did you wipe your hd & try a fresh install?
