Folks,
I got a wierd problem with my Windows ME.
MSGSRV32 always shown as not responding. If I leave it alone, I will be still ok, untill when I try to shut down the box (it will show something hanging).
If I kill it, then the pc froze and crash, I have to reboot by "reset" button.

What is this "MSGSRV32" doing anyway? Anyway to avoid it?

BTW, I have upgraded all the stuff I can.

I got the error when I first installed the drivers for my Soundblaster Live card. In my case, it was because I had two mixers trying to access that file at the same time. After deleting my other mixer and keeping the Soundblaster Live mixer only, everything ran fine. This was under Win98se though.

To check your mixer settings:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Multimedia > Devices tab > Mixer Devices and delete anything that is not the Creative Labs Soundblaster mixer...

I've also heard of problems between the Soundblaster Live and some 128 video cards. The ATI perhaps? This combo also resulted in that msgsrv32.dll error.

If you own the Creative Labs Soundblaster Live card, call up tech support, they identified my problem right away during the second session. The first session didn't really go anywhere.

Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! My saviors! (I hope) just what I have been looking for. Tried just deleting that file. Ooopss.. windows don't like that. had to become familiar with msdos commands again to get one back! I was scared to death. Now, to try this. Damn creative labs. I will never buy form them again.

crap, I only have one device under mixer devices and that is Creative Labs. I guess I have to call them tomorrow. Did new drivers make a difference? I hate tech support that does not have 24/7 hours.

I get that error when..

1) I overclock my cpu to much.
2) I have incompatible memory.

Other then those two senarios, I have not seen that error happen else where.

I don't like hearing that... I added a 256 MB stick of ram to my 128 stick a few weeks ago. I guess I will try taking out my 128 stick.

I had that same error under win98. It was caused when i installed a PCI modem. The problem is windows. I just deltree'd windows and re-installed. That fixed the problem. Radical? Maybe, but everything works great now.

Have same problems loading sound card drivers incorrectly.
Whenever I go by the book on loading the sound card drivers according to the instructions it would work fine. But if I let Win9x detect and install it itself, sound would work.. but get hangups on shutdown with that file not responding.

Try uninstalling the sound card drivers then disable the hardware in device manager. See if that stops your problem, if it does then remove and reinstall exactly as instructed.
