Msg4 is 18 bucks on newegg but after playing msg2 years ago I am a bit worried that this game might be more of the same. Does it have tons of very long cutscenes like msg2 had? For the people who played it, did you enjoy the game and how does it compare to the first one?

This game is a LOT more action oriented and more Westernized than the previous MGS games.

There should be like around 90 minutes worth of cutscenes after you beat the game before the credits roll :)

From what I understand it's very story oriented, so if you haven't played the rest of the series then you won't get as much out of it.

Are the cutscenes skippable for those that just want to barrel through the game?

I must disagree with this. MSG4 was my first PS3 game, and I loved it. I never played anything else in the series, and could follow most of the story. If you must know what happened prior, IGN did a fantastic recap on the series.

I didn't enjoy it. Then again, I'm not a big stealth fan and bought it purely on the hype. Was the PS3's "killer app" at the time. I still haven't finished it.

nope it was one of those games I bought and wished i didnt.

i made it to act 4 and the game was just a snooze fest. it has querky controls and the dialog/cutscenes are just stupid and poorly acted.

luckily i bought it for $30 and sold it for $30

It's good, but you'd have to have played the previous MGS games to appreciate it. The story is pretty decent, but convoluted (as is typical of MGS). The gameplay is just merely ok. It suffers from the dev trying to do way too much with the controls, and quite frankly the gameplay suffers from it (its been that way since MGS3).

The online mode was pretty fun overall, but it was a godawful mess. The online mode isn't done through PSN, instead it's done through some proprietary konami portal in which you have to sign up for... and then you'll have to download some fairly large patches. In short, good multiplayer: horrible horrible horrible HORRIBLE execution.

Do I recommend the game? Yes with some qualifications. It's a great game, but you'd probably be better off playing the earlier installments first (MGS1 is $10 on PSN).

I hated it personally and I considered myself a fan of the series. Definitely feels like there's more cutscene watching than actual game playing.

I'd be willing to get rid of the game for cheap seeing that I won't miss it at all.

as convoluted and shitty as the story was in MGS2, that game was far more fun than MGS4 IMO.

at least i even WANTED to finish it to the end, even if the story left me confused as hell heh.

and yes it was a shitty story because i did not understand it fully :p

Of the 3 PS3 games I own MGS4 is the worse. Its boring as all hell and 1/3 into the game you will totally forget what the premise is. Even the writers of this game said they forgot the original premise of the original story line. Its boring and I only bought it cuz I got it for 20 bucks new and wanted SOMETHING other than BR movies for my PS3. I am really upset that Sony seems to have given up on the PS3. I bought the new FF game for PS3 over the 360 version only cuz it was started on the PS3 and I am still waiting for FF to become more than a single-button mashing game.

I thought MGS4 was the best single player game of this generation, and I never played any of the first 3.

you must have a very limited library of games you have played to think this.

:p

EDIT: and i feel sorry for that!
