MSG in foods

I get migraines from MSG in foods. Is there any way to sort of neutralize this ingredient in foods as part of cooking it ? I love dumplings too much to give it up.

perhaps search around to find if there are other seasonings that produce a similar taste. places that offer no msg alternatives probably use something to produce a similar outcome. I have the same problem. If I'm ordering food, I'll request it without the msg. otherwise, I'll just drink *a lot* of water with it. while it doesn't kill the headache, it does help a bit.l

Are you sure it is the MSG? Do you get migranes from beer, beans, mushrooms, and tomatoes?
After 1.5 years of keeping a detailed log of them each time... MSG is DEFINITELY one of my triggers. I eat the other ingredients you mention very often in my "American diet" 😉 and have no ill effects. I don't drink beer.

The one thing that led to me discovering it was the MSG was when I noticed I got these migraines almost every Friday. I didn't even think it was any kind of food that caused it then... thought it was staring at the monitor too damn long. Well it happens that almost every Friday, I go to this one Chinese take-out place (their Sesame Chicken was/is the best ever) ... so it dawned on me it was more than coincidence. This place must put tons of MSG because I gave them more chances after discovering they were the cause... I actually got the "auras" while I paid my bill there after eating in.

All subsequent times my migraines occured... were after eating chinese foods... though there are occasions such as eating Linguine Alfredo (god knows why)... I happened to check ingredients of KFC and they actually put MSG in KFC Chicken!

Some places don't use MSG, why don't you go there?
I still eat take-out from time to time... hoping that it's not just the sole-cause... that it is a build-up of it in my system. I'm okay most of the time.

I think those restaurants who claim no MSG are lying anyway... we were pretty friendly with one of the restaurants and they said it'll have *some* even if it claims none... they said to get the white rice instead if I didn't want any MSG in it.

Besides, I'm raising this issue because we buy pre-wrapped dumplings and I just boil them... no way around the MSG this way if I want to eat them... and yes, I know, I'm glutton for punishment.

Try and find some PTX Flavor Whey SW40 or another replacement.
Hopefully finding a neutralizer of MSG (and its effects)... not a replacement of the taste.

What is MSG?

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is the sodium salt of glutamic acid. It is commonly added to foods as a ?flavor enhancer. Unlike salt or other seasonings, MSG does not alter the actual taste of food; instead it enhances taste by exciting and increasing the sensitivity of taste buds.

I listed those since they all contain significant amounts of MSG. So if you eat them and don't have ill effects, it might not be MSG...

That is quite interesting. I have a hard time imagining something as natural and "raw" as mushrooms and tomatoes having MSG... are you sure about that ?

And the only beans I have are in Grilled Stuft Burritos... damn is it good and I sure have never had migraines from those.
