MSE and Internet Connection

So I just finished building my rig yesterday and a friend recommended Microsoft Security Essentials as a good protection program.

When I installed it (with real-time protection on) my internet slows to a crawl and websites time out (30 Mbps connection).

If I disable the "Network Inspection System" the internet seems to be fine. If this is turned off, is it still worth using as a primary protection?

Network inspection system is turned on here, no slowdowns, no lag, works great!
